Tan pronto como recog\u00ed la primera copia de mi primera novela de la editorial, se la di a mi esposa.  Ella no hab\u00eda le\u00eddo nada de mi libro hasta entonces, y quer\u00eda que fuera la primera en leer la versi\u00f3n final.  Ella comenz\u00f3 de inmediato.  En los d\u00edas que siguieron, trat\u00e9 de adivinar d\u00f3nde estaba ella en la historia y qu\u00e9 pensaba de ella.  Cada vez que intentaba hablarme, me dominaban los nervios y me preparaba.  Ahora ven\u00eda.  &#8216;\u00bfCu\u00e1les son tus planes para este fin de semana?&#8217;, preguntaba, o &#8216;te los paso a buscar al colegio&#8217;, o &#8216;preciosa caca de paloma por todos lados&#8217; (cuando miraba hacia el balc\u00f3n).  Ella guard\u00f3 silencio sobre mi libro.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"artstyle__paragraph \" data-element-id=\"423c-cb58-d81c-1d2d-a5de-c5e0-62f6-5c9e\">\n<p>      Lo vi tirado por todas partes, abierto, con la tapa hacia arriba.  En nuestra cama, en el sof\u00e1, en la mesa del comedor, en la c\u00f3moda.  Y una y otra vez mi propio est\u00fapido rostro sonriente me miraba desde la contraportada.  En un momento, en alg\u00fan momento durante el d\u00eda, estaba sentada en el sof\u00e1 leyendo el libro.  Nuestras hijas jugueteaban a su alrededor y ella dejaba el libro para decirles algo.  Le pregunt\u00e9 si era una buena idea leer mi libro con una atenci\u00f3n tan fragmentada.  &#8220;S\u00ed&#8221;, dijo, &#8220;no te preocupes por c\u00f3mo le\u00ed tu libro&#8221;.  Pero hola, por supuesto que s\u00ed.  Un momento despu\u00e9s, cuando volv\u00ed a verla abierta en alguna parte, capt\u00f3 mi mirada.  &#8220;\u00bfQu\u00e9?&#8221;, \u200b\u200bpregunt\u00f3 ella.  &#8220;Nada&#8221;, le dije.  &#8220;Bueno, solo est\u00e1 tirado ah\u00ed&#8221;.  Ella me mir\u00f3 y dijo con firmeza: &#8220;No te lo dir\u00e9 hasta que lo termine&#8221;.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"artstyle__paragraph \" data-element-id=\"1b1e-17c1-7cbe-009c-1f4d-a332-5dae-2a01\">\n<p>      Unos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s lleg\u00f3 el momento.  Estaba en el estudio fingiendo trabajar cuando entr\u00f3 mi esposa.  &#8220;Lo he terminado&#8221;, dijo, y se sent\u00f3 en mi regazo.  Ella me mir\u00f3.  Sus ojos estaban rojos y parec\u00eda que acababa de llorar.  &#8220;Realmente me gust\u00f3.&#8221;  Nos abrazamos.  Verla tan conmovida por algo que hice tambi\u00e9n hizo que se me llenaran los ojos de l\u00e1grimas.  Me entregu\u00e9 a eso.
