Los planes de Bierset provocaron protestas en Limburg belga y holand\u00e9s.  Maastricht, Eijsden-Margraten, Gulpen-Wittem y Vaals, junto con ocho municipios flamencos, se opusieron a los planes de expansi\u00f3n.
