Seg\u00fan el servicio sismol\u00f3gico nacional Geonet, fue un terremoto con una fuerza de 6.7 en la escala de Richter. El epicentro estaba al suroeste de Invercargill, la ciudad m\u00e1s meridional del pa\u00eds.
