Fue asesinada a pu\u00f1aladas el 8 de marzo de 2011 en Moorsele y luego cortada en pedazos.  Durante la investigaci\u00f3n, Vanweehaeghe hizo confesiones, pero las retract\u00f3 una y otra vez.  Al final, s\u00f3lo el vecino Thomas Couvreur fue condenado a cadena perpetua por el asesinato.
