Young man arrested after shooting in Oslo – does not rule out that there are more involved

This is what crime boss Anders Johnsrud told news on Wednesday morning. – Last night we systematized the information we received last night. And we have arrested one more person. And the three who were initially arrested have been dismissed. When news talks to Johnsrud at 05.40, he says that the last arrest took place less than an hour ago. The man who has been arrested is around 20 years old. He is charged with aggravated illegal arming with a firearm in a public place. The first reports of the incident in the central district of Torshov came at 8.18pm on Tuesday. Photo: Håkon Benjaminsen / news Johnsrud does not want to say exactly where he was arrested. He says it happened in the city, but not in the same area as the incident. – What is the reason why the other three have graduated? – I don’t want to get into that right now. Just after midnight, Johnsrud confirmed that the police believe there are more people involved. – Now that you have arrested one more person, do you still think there could be more? – At least I can’t rule that out. Hopefully we will get a clearer picture of that during the day today. – Chaos and panic It was at 8.18pm that the police received the first reports of shots fired near Torshovgata. Many had heard several bangs in the area, and the police tweeted that shots were possibly fired from one car at another. Large forces moved out and two police helicopters circled in the air. Around 40 minutes later, the police reported that they had control of two cars and that three people had been arrested. – The three were observed in connection with the one car, says Johnsrud. Parts of Torshovgata were blocked off while the police worked on the scene. Suddenly we heard three or four bangs, and then full panic broke out, says the man. – People threw themselves on the ground, ran into the bar, beer glasses broke and someone tried to jump out of a window and broke a leg. People got very scared. Possible “form of settlement” The police searched for casualties in the area, but no one is said to have been hit by the shots. Action leader Nicolai Backe Henden says there is an obvious danger to the public when shooting takes place in public spaces. – So we will investigate this further. We have no indications that this has been a targeted attack on the public. It points to there being some form of settlement. He confirms that they have made some interesting discoveries at the site, but will not elaborate on what kind of discoveries we are talking about. Operations leader Nicolai Backe Henden about the shooting. Stabbing earlier in the day On Tuesday morning, a teenage boy was critically injured in a stabbing at Stovner. The crime leader says it is natural to investigate whether there is a connection between the incidents, since they are so serious and happened within a short time. – But as things stand now, we do not have any concrete connections that we are aware of. That can change. Like Backe Henden, Johnsrud also does not believe that the incident at Torshov is blind violence. – One hypothesis we have is that this is a conflict between criminal circles. The audience need not worry. – I was afraid of being shot A witness tells news that she heard what she thinks were four shots when she was eating at a nearby restaurant. – Me and a group were sitting in the outdoor dining area at the Trikkestallen when we suddenly heard four shots. People became restless and started running from the scene, says Maria Simone Otterlei, who saw some cars speeding away from the scene. She was walking into the restaurant when she heard the bangs. – I was afraid of being shot myself. I think it was very disgusting. You hear about shootings and riots in Oslo, but I’ve never been close to that myself, says Otterlei. Maria Simone Otterlei was at a nearby restaurant when the incident happened.
