The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has now sent out a new yellow warning about snow in the mountain areas of southern Norway. – If you are going to drive from east to west, you should be prepared for stronger snow flurries on the west side of the mountain, says state meteorologist Martin Granerød. The difference is precisely in the mountains. ⚠️A yellow danger warning has been issued for snow on the mountain in southern Norway⚠️ Photo: Yr.no West of the mountain, 20-40 centimeters of snow can fall, while you can expect 5-10 centimeters on the east side. – It is mainly on the west side of the mountain that we expect the most precipitation. Some may move over on the east side, but there you can avoid most of it, says the meteorologist. Light winds The warning applies from Wednesday to Thursday, but as early as Tuesday, low pressure will arrive with precipitation in both the south and north of the country. – There will be both snow and rain depending on where you are. If you are going to drive over the mountains and still have summer tyres, you should consider a change, the meteorologists report. This was how the driving conditions were from Berkåk to Oppdal in Trøndelag on Sunday. Now there can be a lot of snow in the mountains in southern Norway. Photo: Glenn Thomas Nilsen In addition to snow, strong winds and snow drifts are also expected in the mountains in southern Norway. – There may be locally difficult driving conditions. Warnings have also been issued about snow drifts for parts of Troms, the mountain passes in Ofoten and parts of the mountain passes in Nordland. The three warned debts from Tuesday evening and will end during Wednesday. The meteorologists refer to the weather in Northern Norway this week as mixed drops. There will be both rain, sleet and snow cities. In Bø in Vesterålen there was little wind, light snow flurries in the mountains and four degrees today. Photo: Børre Magne Albrigtsen Warns of waves of eight meters On Wednesday and Thursday, high seas and a lot of wind are also expected in the west. The highest sea level is expected between Rogaland and Sognefjorden on Thursday afternoon. – Check your moorings and be careful when traveling at sea in smaller boats, the meteorologists report. The reason for the high seas is a strong low pressure from the west which creates a wind field from Trøndelag downwards. On Wednesday, places in Western Norway south of Stad are expected to be exposed to strong gales. At Stad, a full storm is expected. Warm in Europe While we are freezing here in Norway, temperatures are high in southern Europe. In Córdoba in Spain, 35.6 degrees were measured, which is the highest in Europe in the last 24 hours. A little further north, in Great Britain, Sunday was the warmest October day in the country for 5 years. First frosty night on the coast in Southern Norway. While we freeze here at home, it is hot in the south of Europe. Photo: Jarle I. Kvam But things seem to be turning around. Over the next week, slightly colder weather is expected in southern Europe. The cold weather here at home is expected to continue throughout the week. – If today’s forecasts are correct, it will be colder again next week, says Granerød.
