The vote among the more than 2,000 delegates took place behind closed doors. The result was presented on Sunday when the week-long party congress of the Communist Party ended. The re-election of Xi as party leader means that he is almost guaranteed to be re-elected also as the country’s president at the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress in March next year.
