10 March 2023 at 04:27 Xi Jinping gets five more years as China’s president Xi Jinping has been re-elected for a third term as China’s president and will thus be in office for five more years. The nearly 3,000 members of China’s National People’s Congress voted unanimously to retain Xi in a runoff election. In the past, it has been the practice for Chinese presidents to serve only two five-year terms, something Xi has wanted to change. Last autumn, Xi was also re-elected as party leader of the Communist Party of China. (NTB)
