It has been an uplifting film year seen through Norwegian eyes. With cinemas reopened and several Norwegian blockbusters on the programme, the public has shown that they have longed for experiences on the big screen. The remake of “Cinderella” was mostly seen in cinemas with a staggering 600,000 visitors. More than twice as many as Oscar nominees “World’s Worst Person”. Nor are the two alone in making a mark with good reviews and visitor numbers. Because it is not dice rolls and ticket sales that decide who gets the People’s Amanda, it is you and the news.no audience who decide. Until the Amanda show next weekend, one winner will be voted out of five audience favorites at the cinema. Go in and vote for People’s Amanda here! People’s Amanda People’s Amanda is an audience award and one of the highest awards given out during the Amanda prize in Haugesund. The audience votes for the winning film. The prize was awarded for the first time in 2003 as the People’s Film Prize, but then to a person who had distinguished himself in the film industry. In 2007, it changed its name to Folkets Amanda, and since then has been distributed to films. In 2021, the award went to the documentary film “Generation Utøya”. Here are the finalists: In bad days Photo: SF Studios Director: Tommy Wirkola. Publisher: SF Norway. A dark comedy in the familiar Tommy Wirkola style. The film is packed with well-known actors and was well received by critics when it came out. Despite the fact that it had a summer launch when there were still closed cinemas in the Oslo area, “I onde dager” was seen by 92,000. – It’s fun that Wirkola is again attracting attention in Norwegian cinemas. He has long been a well-known name among a certain segment of the public, especially thanks to “Kill Buljo” and the two “Død Snø” films, says news’s film critic Birger Vestmo. – Funny and physically demanding roles from celebrities such as Aksel Hennie, Noomi Rapace and Atle Antonsen were also good reasons why the film was a great success. “North Sea” Photo: Fantefilm Fiction / Nordisk Film Distribution Director: John Andreas Andersen. Publisher: Nordisk Film Distribution. The latest prestigious project from director John Andreas Andersen and the company behind “The Wave” and “The Quake”. With 229,000 visitors, the audience was obviously hungry for more disaster films. – The film serves up a new exciting story with impressive effects on a scale that would hardly be possible to achieve on a Norwegian film budget, says Vestmo. – Also, it was a stroke of genius to give the lead role to fiery Kristine Kujath Thorp, who, together with other solid actors, adds a believable humanity to “North Sea” that reinforces the audience’s sense of what is at stake. Lange flate ballær III Photo: Øverste Hylle Film distribution Director: Harald Zwart. Publisher: Överste Hylle Filmdistribution. 14 years after the previous film, Harald Zwart continues with a new story with old acquaintances. Even without press screenings and the usual launch event, the film was still seen by 114,000 in cinemas. It’s not so strange, says news’s film critic. – Especially the more mature part of the cinema audience probably has more funny memories from the first two films from 2006 and 2008. This is a new folk comedy, which does not pretend to be anything else, says Vestmo. – The film works well as laid-back entertainment on its own terms, with simple humour, pleasant characters and warm descriptions of situations. As well as unexpected guest roles from a Norwegian princess and a British pop star! “Three nuts for Cinderella” Photo: Storm Films Director: Cecilie A. Mosli. Publisher: Nordisk Film Distribution. Did we need a Norwegian remake of the Czechoslovak Christmas favorite from 1973? With 597,000 cinema tickets sold, the public was obviously positive about the idea. – “Tre nötter til Askepott” builds on much of what we love in the original film from 1973 that we watch on NRK1 every Christmas Eve, while at the same time it has a lovely Disney aesthetic that appeals to the younger “Frost” generation, says Birger Vestmo . – Director Cecilie A. Mosli has created a sizzling well-told adventure story, where all the classic elements are in place, while Astrid S is just a princess in the lead role. The world’s worst person Photo: SF STUDIOS / OSLO PICTURES Director: Joachim Trier. Publisher: SF Studios. The year’s most talked-about Norwegian film was crowned with two Oscar nominations and a generous acting prize in Cannes for Renate Reinsve. Trier’s film was seen by 262,000 in cinemas in this country. – Joachim Trier’s conclusion to his so-called Oslo trilogy was my favorite film among all the films I saw last year. As I wrote in the review, the film follows in the footsteps of “Reprise” and “Oslo 31 August”, and is a wonderfully warm, witty and grown-up film about something so seemingly banal, but at the same time so essential and all-encompassing, as life, death and love . – It will be exciting to see how many popular votes this film gets, says Birger Vestmo.
