On Monday morning, a number of people were evacuated after explosives were found in a garden on the east side of Fredrikstad. Late on Wednesday evening, a Swedish 28-year-old man was arrested by the police in the same city. He is accused of having possession of explosives that were to be used to commit a criminal offence, but denies criminal guilt. One of the police’s hypotheses is that the explosive charge was placed in the garden of an unknowing family with children by accident. On Friday, the 28-year-old was remanded in custody for four weeks with a letter and visiting ban. He must also be isolated from other inmates for the first two weeks.
