On Tuesday at 04.40, Equinor was notified of the smoke development, the company writes in a press release. Equinor reports on its website that emergency response organizations have been mobilized and that the authorities have been notified. Sleipner B is an unmanned production platform located in the Sleipner Vest area, 12.5 kilometers away from the Sleipner A platform. Production has stopped, and the plant has been depressurised. – Cooling of the platform is still ongoing with water cannons from vessels. The situation is unclear, stated Eileen Brundtland, spokeswoman for the Norwegian Maritime Industry Authority, at 1.35pm. Later on Tuesday afternoon, press spokesman Magnus Frantzen Eidsvold in Equinor says that the company is still working on the platform. – We are on the field with two vessels. Now we cool down and observe with a heat-seeking camera. There is no danger to life and health or discharge to sea. Sleipner B is one of the platforms in the Sleipner field in the North Sea, which is operated by Equinor. The Sleipner field is a gas and condensate field that consists of several platforms, including Sleipner A (the main platform), Sleipner B, and Sleipner R. Smoke development and flames Eidsvold says Equinor was notified that there was smoke development in a switchboard room on Sleipner B. It flames were also observed at one point. – It is too early to say anything about the cause or the injuries. We have shut down gas production as part of emergency management. But we have maintained the supply to our gas customers. Eidsvold cannot say now how much the shutdown will cost Equinor. – Now we have to finish and deal with the situation.
