I think this game is a key to our good working environment, says Stig Larsen, sales manager at Glitre Energi Str\u00f8m. Friday night sees the start of the first round of the Premier League, and that also means the start of the Fantasy Premier League. Since the sales team was put together three years ago, they have been competing against each other in the popular game. It involves selecting a squad of players in the English top division, and then getting points for how the players do in matches in real life. Towering over colleagues To get good performances requires an interest in football and also a certain knowledge of numbers. – It cultivates our competitive instinct, and it’s nice to be able to come on a Monday to tower over your colleagues a little, says Larsen. Figures obtained by Viasat show that there were 215,000 Norwegian players last year. Almost 7 million worldwide have already made a team, and that number is set to increase. Arbresha Hadergjonaj is newly employed and in Fantasy PL for the first time. She also believes that the game creates unity in the gang. He is confident of victory this year as well. – We win honours, and that’s enough for me. Winning over the others is most important, says Eskevik. This year he has competition from a new hire. Arbresha Hadergjonaj is participating for the first time. – I think this creates a very good sense of unity, and it’s fun to be a part of, she says. To beat the office’s best in the Fantasy Premier League and in football, the others spare no means. Maybe to stay at the top, says Hadergjonaj. In Drammen you can also find one of Norway’s best players, and he has some tips for new players. Eirik Jokerud has twice reached the top 250 in the world and has several other top positions. Among other things, he came second in the Norwegian version of the game last year. – To become a good fantasy player you have to know a bit of football and be a bit fond of numbers, says Jokerud. Don’t you dare estimate the time spent. He himself is a maths teacher and watches an insane amount of football. He plays against colleagues at work and against his partner, who has also got hooked on the game. Eirik Jokerud from Drammen is one of Norway’s best Fantasy players. She has beaten me in individual rounds, and then I got to hear it. – I have also created leagues against my students and promised them a big surprise if they beat me. However, that has never happened, says Jokerud with a smile on his face. He dares not estimate how much time he spends on it each week. – But it’s a lot, he laughs. There they also spend a lot of time on the game. – If we ask the boss to close his ears now; how much time do you spend on this game during working hours? – I don’t spend too much time during working hours. But I think the boss actually spends the most time on it here in the office, laughs Eskevik.
