Several died and many were injured, reports the German newspaper Merkur.de.  The newspaper refers to sources in the police.  On Friday afternoon, the police report that four people have died.  The local newspaper GAP-Tagblatt reports that at least 60 people are injured, 16 of them seriously.  Many of the passengers are stated to be schoolchildren and students.  A major rescue operation was launched with police, fire brigade and health personnel.  Several rescue helicopters were also deployed.  The train that derailed is a double-decker that runs between Munich and Garmisch, writes Focus.de.  The train was heading north when it derailed and several carriages overturned.  The cause of the accident is not known.  The railway line between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberau is closed.
