– It is perhaps not the most fun thing to have outside. That you ask, as it were. But it only shows that you go out, and that you are really passionate about the 400. This is how Henriette J\u00e6ger answered when she was asked at the press conference before her EC debut in Rome if it is embarrassing to get so much attention for throwing up after a race. The 20-year-old from Aremark has made remarkable progress after she abandoned multi-sport and specialized in short running distances. In 2024, she has already smashed the Norwegian records for 200, 300 and 400 metres. J\u00e6ger progressed to the 200 meter final on Monday. Every time J\u00e6ger has run a 400-meter race, she throws up. It happens in front of everyone. Preferably in the middle of TV interviews. Athletes throwing up after a 400-metre race is not an abnormal sight on an athletics track. But J\u00e6ger experiences it more often and more strongly than most others. Mother and daughter have tried to find the cause – in order to find a solution to the problem. The theory is that it is due to a combination of high lactic acid levels and high stress levels. Unable to crack the code They collaborate with Olympiatoppen, and have also consulted in international training environments. Henriette J\u00e6ger has chosen to run 200 metres. It does not trigger the same feeling of nausea. The choice to run 200 meters instead of 400 meters was based on an assessment of where the possibilities for a good placement were best. J\u00e6ger has the third best year’s best in the starting field. That makes her a medal candidate. After the EC, a new assessment will be made of which distance the super talent will run in the Olympics later this summer. According to Unn Merete Lie J\u00e6ger, there will again be an assessment of where the chances of a good placement are greatest. Can affect choice The vomiting problem can affect the calculation. – It is certainly a factor that is included in the calculations, that too, considering what she will choose in the championship, says mother J\u00e6ger. But for Rome, the choice has been made. All that remains is to do the work. – First, I expect to reach the final. It would have been a lot of fun. And a medal would have been incredibly cool, says Henriette J\u00e6ger. – Is it like that that you almost start to be a bit disappointed if you don’t get a medal? – In a way, I can’t do that either.
