Enterococci are a type of intestinal bacteria that are resistant to several types of antibiotics, writes the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) in a press release.  This makes it difficult to treat such infections.  So far, 65 people have been confirmed infected.  In most cases, the bacterium has not led to illness.  &#8211; VRE does not usually lead to illness, but can cause serious infections in weakened people.
