And here comes a kind of program statement: – One of my projects for R\u00f8dt is that we will make room for more people who did not grow up in the youth parties, but who know firsthand a number of problems and can join R\u00f8dt, says Martinussen. – We must be open to the fact that you do not need to have the full package and the right opinion on all matters. Then we have to be a little less judgmental. – You can come into R\u00f8dt and agree on our most important issues and not necessarily have a wall-to-wall carpet of opinions on everything and feel that you have to fit in stylistically and culturally, she explains. – Good relationship Martinussen’s road to the top in R\u00f8dt was dramatic: Last summer, R\u00f8dt leader Bj\u00f8rnar Moxnes ended up in bad weather after stealing a pair of sunglasses at Gardermoen. How do you think about it today? – It is an issue that I have said a lot about a lot of times, and it has had nothing to do with my decision to run now. – How is your relationship with Bj\u00f8rnar Moxnes today? – That’s good. He is back in the parliamentary group and is doing a very good job, as foreign and defense policy spokesperson for the party. Central figure Martinussen, as deputy leader and Moxnes’ close associate, has for many years been absolutely central in the work to change R\u00f8dt from being a marginal party, to today becoming a power factor with eight representatives in the Storting. Then she must get support at the national meeting on 24 May in Oslo. – You have said that you had doubts about whether you wanted to become party leader permanently. What makes you decide now? – It is a life choice and a serious decision that I have taken very seriously. It is both about having the strength for it and being ready for it, but also about having faith that I can achieve this. And I have, she says. – What motivates you? – There is something left undone in society. When people who go to work every day and make society go round, have such low wages that they don’t really have the freedom you should have in Norway, then someone has to stand up for them. In light of last year’s integrity scandals, Martinussen also fears that the distance between people and politics is growing. – Therefore, restoring trust and renewing democracy will be a key issue for R\u00f8dt going forward. But this may change after the election next autumn. If there is a red-green majority, St\u00f8re may have to work with Red to get a majority. R\u00f8dt is stable above the threshold of 4 per cent in the national opinion polls. But Martinussen will not clarify for now whether it is a goal for her to take R\u00f8dt into government. – Red has a strong willingness to cooperate. We work every single day to achieve success, and then we have to work together. – But not necessarily in government? – It will be a discussion that the party will certainly have… – But what do you mean? – I think we went to the elections in 2021 with a completely correct understanding, which is that it is not certain that entering government is the best way to gain power and influence, says Martinussen, and adds: – I feel that we have good talks with the parties on the left now. It is an acknowledgment that R\u00f8dt will cooperate and an understanding that we need a new course before the general election. Want to do our part of the job.
