Now he wants to join the board of the county team. Before the dramatic annual meeting in Trondheim Ap, group leader and Ap’s former mayoral candidate in Trondheim, Emil Raaen, was nominated for a new board in Trøndelag Labor Party. Trond Giske was one of Pål Sture Nilsen’s supporters when he was elected as the new leader of the Trondheim Labor Party at the annual meeting. Photo: Bjarte Johannesen / news U-turn The party has now done a U-turn. Raaen has been scrapped, and Pål Sture Nilsen has taken the place. But the new board of the Trondheim Labor Party is divided on the matter. Therefore, Pål Sture Nilsen had to resort to a double vote to get his election through. This is written by both TV 2 and Adresseavisen. – This shows how deep the division is between the circles in the town hall and Folkets Hus in Trondheim Labor Party. So says political commentator Linda Bjørgan in news Trøndelag. Now there must be an end to what is perceived as noise, and the focus must be on what is politics. That’s what we’re for. That is what the voters expect and the members expect. That’s what Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said about the row in the Trondheim Labor Party. One person who has been blamed for the row is Trond Giske, who is now deputy chairman of Trondheim Ap. – During the annual meeting of Trondheim Ap, it was clear that Trond Giske, through the local team Nidaros Sosialdemokratisk Forum, has all the power in Trondheim Ap, and was not afraid to use it either. That’s what Tone Sofie Aglen, political commentator at news, says. Wants a unifying board Now it seems that the row will continue towards the annual meeting of the county team on 16 March. The selection committee has held several meetings, and will soon present its recommendation. – We have a job to do, and have received a lot of input from the municipalities. We are concerned that Trøndelag Ap should have a good and unifying board. That’s what Arnhild Holstad, leader of the election committee in Trøndelag Labor Party, says. She confirms that yesterday the selection committee received new proposals for board candidates from Trondheim, but does not wish to comment on this beyond that. – We in the selection committee must make our own assessments, not just based on the input from the teams. We are allowed to think for ourselves, says Holstad. news has not received an answer from Ingvild Kjerkol as to whether she wishes to continue as leader. Ingvild Kjerkol has been leader of the Trøndelag Labor Party since 2020. Photo: Bjarte Johannesen / news Her local team, Stjørdal Labor Party, has informed the election committee that they still want Kjerkol as county leader. – She has said that it was fine, says deputy leader Reinert Botten in the Stjørdal Labor Party. Eva Kristin Hansen has announced that she will not stand for re-election as deputy leader. Mayor of Nærøysund Amund Hellesø is happy to be re-elected as deputy. – I make myself available for the party, then it is up to the annual meeting to decide. Opening the Storting’s door Political commentator Linda Bjørgan is not surprised by the turnaround from the Trondheim Labor Party, where Trond Giske is now powerful deputy leader. – As leader of the country’s largest local team, he will probably also influence the composition of the new board of the county team, says Bjørgan. Towards the end of the year, the county party will have its nomination for the Storting ready, from the two constituencies in Trøndelag. Here, Giske has signed up for the match. – I have the benefit of talking to someone in Trondheim Ap who doubts that Giske’s goal is to return to national politics, says political commentator Tone Sofie Aglen. – He wants to be an important voice in the Labor Party, and wants to return where he can have influence. She believes this explains the great interest in how the board of Trøndelag Ap and the nomination committee of Sør-Trøndelag Ap are put together. – The split in Trondheim Ap about who they want as deputy leader in Trøndelag Ap seems to follow the same pattern as the visible conflict during the annual meeting. Tough competition But the road back to the Storting could be tough for Giske. Both Karianne Tung and Per Olav Hopsø are wanted by many. Tung attracts female voters, and Hopsø from Melhus is the party’s district alibi. The party also wants a candidate with strong LO connections, and high on the list they must also have a candidate that AUF supports. Regardless of what happens in relation to the accusations of plagiarism in Kjerkol’s master’s thesis, she is probably still strongly wanted at the top in the nomination for the Storting from Nord-Trøndelag. Amund Hellesø is also a current candidate here. Bjarte M.
