– Some are simply afraid for their lives. They are afraid to go out the door. That’s what the chairman of the Muslim community Sisters for Sisters, Lejla Mujanovic, says. On Wednesday last week, a woman and her daughter (8) were found murdered in a home in V\u00e5gsbygd in Kristiansand. They belonged to the Muslim community. The father of the 8-year-old is charged with the double murder and was wanted internationally. On Thursday it became known that he has been found dead in the lake in Kristiansand. Since the murders, many Muslims have come to the mosque in \u00d8vre Slettheia to pray and talk together. Mujanovic has also met women who feel fear. – They are afraid that the murders may arouse acceptance among people who have violent tendencies. She thinks about mental health, especially among minority men. – We have to get better at identifying what they need help with. We privatize our problems as culture and tradition teach us, she believes. Mujanovic, who studies sociology and religion, is concerned with how we can create good research and good conversations that help prevent partner murder. She is concerned that her job as a volunteer is to look after Muslims. – We are here to take care of the Muslim community and work with Muslim women who feel fear. – What are the women afraid of? – Some are afraid that there is a man out there who is crazy and psychotic. A man who has managed to hide from the police and who can come up with anything. Talking to young people The Muslim and Christian communities in the district are now working together to talk to those who need it after the murders. – This is a demanding time for the district. It is important to meet people where they are in order to talk about these feelings, says deacon in V\u00e5gsbygd church, Arild Tj\u00f8rve. Together with environmental worker Hussein Al-Kharasani, he has spent a lot of time talking to young people aged 13 to 18 about the incident. – They are curious and wonder why this has happened. We have talked about love and taking care of each other. That is what we have focused on the most, says Al-Kharasani. The two are already well known among young people and others in the district. For them, it is a point that exactly the two go together. – We believe it helps to kill any prejudices that may exist. The two say that they have also talked a lot with the young people about not contributing to the spread of rumours. – We have said that they must not just post something they hear on social media, says Al-Kharasani. Tj\u00f8rve adds: – We try to meet the young people where they are. We talk to them about feelings and that there are adults who see them in a vulnerable and difficult time.
