Only 521 models were produced and the price tag was a staggering NOK 5,499 before it was sold out. Ethiopian Tigist Assefa lowered the marathon record for women by two minutes and eleven seconds, when she won in a time of 2.11.53 hours. The controversies are not about the properties, but about the lifespan. They should initially be designed to be used only in one marathon (42,195 metres). – Although Assefa’s world record on Sunday was fantastic, this arms race around the shoe is not good for the sport. It reduces the old times (which work slowly) and the new times (which come with the caveat “but it was the shoe”) … but more importantly, it is not good for the planet, writes ultra runner Adharanand Finn on X/Twitter. Sending a letter to the Norwegian boss Finn is known in the running community as the author of the books “Running with the Kenyans”, “The Way of the Runner” and “The Rise of the Ultra Runners”. He has shared the text together with a letter from the organization The Green Runners. It is addressed to Bjørn Gulden, Adidas’ Norwegian boss. “By promoting these shoes, they are in danger of creating a new standard. An acceptance that people should not expect to get many kilometers out of their shoes. An acceptance that a greater consumption of shoes is okay”, says the letter which ends: “We are anti-Evo” THE LETTER TO ADIDAS: The Green Runners have addressed this letter to Bjørn Gulden at Adidas. It is emphasized that this is not an attack on Assefa or the world record that was seen in Berlin. news has tried to get a comment from Adidas about the criticism, without success. Can account for one to two seconds per kilometer Sindre Buraas was for several years among the best Norwegian long-distance runners, with participation in the 5000 meters in two World Championships and three European Championships during his career. – It is a shame that the world is moving in that direction in terms of sustainability. I am a designer and within furniture and architecture, which is my field, I am very strongly opposed to use and throw away, says Buraas to news. The shoe weighed 138 grams, far less than comparable shoes from competitors. – They are around sixty grams lighter than other similar models. If it amounts to one to two seconds per kilometer in a marathon with a weight advantage, then it is 40 to 80 seconds in total, he says, and adds: – But that is pure guessing or an estimate. I can’t imagine that there isn’t an advantage, says Buraas. EXPERIENCED RUNNER: Sindre Buraas. Photo: Vidar Ruud / NTB scanpix Do you think they can be used for training? The 34-year-old says that it is not unusual for driven marathon runners to buy new shoes for each marathon. He nevertheless points out that they can often be used well outside of competition. – They run it in and then use it for training when it’s over. We have seen the Nike shoe which was also supposed to last very short, but which lasted a very long time as a good training shoe, says Buraas and emphasizes that he does not know if this also applies to the Adidas model. A few years ago, it was Nike that led the way in technology development, with among others the Vaporfly and Alphafly models. Subsequently, there have been several strictures regarding what is legal in a shoe. – Up until now, the lead had been zero, so perhaps you can now see that someone has slowed down a bit again. If you see that there is a market for shoes at NOK 5,000 and there are people who are willing to pay, then surely others will follow, Buraas believes. Also on the shorter distances, there has been a big development on the shoe front in recent years:

ttn-69

The exclusive model “Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1” was used for the first time during the Berlin marathon in September.
