Yesterday, Solberg gave a series of interviews to Norwegian media. She emphasized there that the party must decide whether she will be leader and prime ministerial candidate in 2025. But so far, few voices in Høgre have advocated that she must step aside. No one is challenging the leader, who now has major integrity issues linked to his government period. news has asked a number of important local and central politicians about why this is so. These are the arguments that stand out: They believe in her history. She has built trust in the party for 19 years. She has made Høgre bigger through good elections. They believe in Solberg’s history. The discussion has been heated as to whether he could and should have told more about stock trading and disqualification before the election. Although Solberg yesterday had to admit that she has not had her own integrity in order, all the right-wing politicians news has spoken to believe that the party leader is truthful. TRUST: Solberg has not done anything wrong, believes Eivind Holst. Photo: Hege Kristin Hagen – She hasn’t done anything to make me no longer trust her. Nor has she stopped doing anything that makes me no longer have confidence in her, says Eivind Holst, who is county manager in Nordland. His assessment is that it is Solberg’s husband who has done something wrong and that the case is almost innocent. – I have confidence in Erna as party leader and feel that she speaks the truth, says Margret Hagerup, who sits in the leadership of the Storting group. – She answers well and reliably about a serious and difficult matter, says parliamentary representative Mathilde Tybring-Gjedde. – The fact that she has now been so open about something that has been an incredibly difficult matter for both her and the party actually strengthens her as a leadership candidate, says Tom Georg Indrevik, prominent mayor in Øygarden in Vestland after today’s Solberg interview. STRENGTH: The mayor of Øygarden believes Solberg has strengthened. Photo: Gerd Johanne Braadland / news Critics There has, of course, never been free from internal criticism. But Furre also expressed confidence in the party leader. So did the vast majority of the local politicians news’s Debatten contacted earlier this week. And although it is also part of the picture that many right-wing politicians are very tight-lipped or do not answer the phone, the main picture seems to be that Solberg’s position in the party has not particularly changed. Has built trust over time Erna Solberg has been head of Høgre for almost 20 years after she was elected at the national meeting in 2004. TIME: Erna Solberg became head of Høgre in 2004. Photo: Tor Richardsen / NTB Just after she held the sensational press conference earlier Friday, he met the central board of the party. They had gathered to celebrate and talk about the election results, but got into a scandal. Several members talk about how the trustees in the party there expressed statements of support for her, and partly explain this with how she has built her position over time. – I have confidence in her as a leader with the same foundation now as all the times she has been elected and re-elected since 2004, says Helge Orten, who sits on the party leadership together with Solberg, to news. – She has built up enormous trust among the Norwegian people over 20 years and for my part it has not been broken by what has come to light so far, explains parliamentary representative Bård Ludvig Thorheim. STOLAR AT SOLBERG: Bård Ludvig Thorheim. Photo: Amanda Iversen Orlich / news – Why is it not a problem that she has not used her own integrity? – As I know her, I trust that she has acted correctly based on the information she has had. If not, I think she is the first to admit it, says Thorheim. The head of Høgre’s women’s forum, Sandra Bruflot, argues that Solberg has broad support, even after what has happened now. – For me, it is absolutely decisive that she has the trust of the women’s forum leaders around the country. He has. Kristin Ørmen Johnsen sits on the central board for Buskerud and points out that the party leader has managed to rebuild Høgre as a people’s party. She believes Solberg also has a lot of trust outside Høgre. – She has steered Norway through two major crises, the financial crisis and the corona crisis, says Johnsen. Monica Melvær in Ålesund also sits on the central board. – She has stood firm in all storms and shown completely unique leadership qualities, she says. – When you have shown prudence and calmness in hundreds of cases, that counts in the assessment of trust, says Holst in Nordland. Election result that excites – Confidence in Erna is about two things: Results and effort, says leader of Unge Høgre, Ola Svenneby. – No one has anything to complain about her on those two points, he asserts. SIGER: Erna Solberg and UH head Ola Svenneby celebrate the school valsiger in September. Photo: Amanda Iversen Orlich / news He believes the results neutralize what could be political criticism. – People can think differently about political direction and criticize her for going too far to the right, to the left or for standing in the middle. But she can show that with her as leader, the party will win the election. He also points to the fact that the party has just toppled the Labor Party from its throne as the largest party in a Norwegian election.
