But then the Norwegian had struggled and been frustrated throughout the match. The misses were so rough that Viasat expert Nils Johan Semb, a few minutes before the goal, had summed up the game so far for Haaland, after the Norwegian striker’s fifth miss. – Some days it’s the day it doesn’t want to come in, said Semb. Haaland was frustrated during the match. Here after one of the misses in the first half. Photo: TONY OBRIEN / Reuters Then the Norwegian star striker had squandered chances for over 80 minutes. And the chances were solid before it came loose, when Haaland definitively decided the match with his 3-1 score. A picture of Haaland’s waste of chances appears if you look at “expected goals” (so-called xG). It tells how many goals Haaland is expected to score based on the chances he has. Against West Ham he had 2.16 xG. So it was expected that he would score 2.16 goals. – Weak Nothing was as usual when the City manager and his star gallery were heading into the break. Because Manchester City was below. The star gallery had also abused huge chances. And it was Haaland who had been behind the worst misses. – It is simply weak not to get it on target, assessed Viasat expert Pål André Helland when Haaland had missed his second chance of the day a quarter of an hour into the match. The chance was simply enormous. It was not Haaland’s day for a long time. Here after one of the big chances in the match. Photo: Kin Cheung / AP He was allowed to stand alone at the back post, but simply missed what could almost be called an open goal. – It is almost unusual to see that he does not put it there, says Helland. But there would be more misses that were described as “unreal” to be Haaland. He had already been involved in City’s quadruple chance at the start of the match. And still the away team hadn’t had the worst cold shower before the break. It came when James Ward-Prowse scored 1-0 to the home side after a pattern attack after 35 minutes of play. But the Haaland waste was far from over. Six minutes later, Haaland could just about slide the ball into the goal. But again, things went wrong for the Norwegian. This time the finish was saved roughly on the line. – It is not possible, shouted Viaplay commentator Andreas Toft. – It is the touch on the ball that has prevented him from becoming a two-goal scorer, Semb added about the Norwegian star striker. Enormous opening The break talk had probably been of hairdryer quality. For Manchester City came out like a whirlwind in the 2nd half. And it was only seconds before Jéremy Doku put the equalizer into the back of the net. The Belgian beautifully put the ball into the far corner. But there was to be more evidence that this was not Haaland’s day for a long time. After 53 minutes, he burned his fourth huge chance of the day. This time, however, the ending was better. Rodri sent the ball into the field where Haaland was flying in the air and steered the ball towards the goal with his left foot. But again West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola stood in the way. Haaland’s acrobatic finish in the second half did not pay off. Photo: IAN KINGTON / AFP – That Erling Braut Haaland hasn’t scored on Alphonse Areola is a small wonder, commented Toft. This was the fourth big chance Haaland missed in the match. Decided the match In the end, however, Haaland was involved when the match was decided. But when Bernardo Silva got the ball past the West Ham goalkeeper, Haaland let the ball pass. He could have put his leg forward to score the goal, but he let it pass into the back of the net to make it 2-1. But Haaland would still miss another chance. After 81 minutes, the shot was again too bad after he had shown a tremendous move. On the sixth big chance, however, it finally came to an end for Haaland. After 86 minutes, there was no doubt when Haaland scored his seventh goal in five games in the Premier League. – There are many indications that this is the nail in the coffin, says Semb.

ttn-69

Because after 86 minutes, the ball also went in for Erling Braut Haaland.
