The incident took place at 11.30am on Friday morning, local time.  Abe received several blood transfusions in an attempt to save his life, but still died a few hours later in the hospital.  The gunshot wound reached all the way to the heart, according to a doctor at the hospital.  41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami admits to having shot Abe, reports Reuters.  The man is a former soldier and has explained that he was angry with an organization that he thought Abe was part of, but it should have nothing to do with his policy.  The man must have been calm and numb during questioning.  Video of the assassination and arrest.  Prime Minister Fumio Kishida strongly condemns the attack.  &#8211; I can not find words to describe this, he says, according to AFP.  Shinzo Abe has been head of state in Japan for two terms. Pictures from the place show Abe on a stage, before a loud bang is heard, followed by smoke.  Immediately after the bang, the perpetrator was laid on the ground by security personnel. Photo: AP According to witnesses at the scene, the murder weapon made such a loud noise that it can be compared to an explosion.  &#8211; He did not collapse after the first shot, but then came a loud bang. Photo: AP The weapon will be homemade and consist of two tubes wrapped with duct tape, writes the newspaper Kyodo. Photo: Screenshot \/ AP Former soldier arrested Researcher at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment and Japanese expert, Petter Lindgren, describes the incident as shocking.  &#8211; Japan is an incredibly peaceful and non-violent society.  &#8220;Shocking&#8221; is probably the best word to describe it with, says Lindgren.  The arrested perpetrator, Tetsuya Yamagami, is a former soldier in the navy.  He joined the Japanese self-defense forces in 2005, after three years in service. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the thoughts are with Abe&#8217;s family and the Japanese people.  The US ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, says he is sad and shocked.  He describes Abe as a unique leader and an unwavering ally of the United States.  Germany&#8217;s Chancellor says he is appalled by the news of Abe&#8217;s death.  &#8211; This deadly attack has shaken me and made me incredibly sad.  I give my deepest sympathy to his family, my colleague Fumio Kishida and our Japanese friends, Scholz writes on Twitter.  NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg describes Japan&#8217;s former prime minister as a defender of democracy, and a friend and colleague for many years.
