It had been one week since Chelsea coach Emma Hayes announced that Kirby could not play football indefinitely. – There was talk of chronic fatigue and overtraining syndrome, so there were lots of things that were thrown out, Kirby tells the BBC shortly before the championship at home breaks loose. For a number of years she has been among England and Chelsea’s very best players, but at the same time she has tried to deal with the illnesses. Kirby has been open about the fact that she became ill with pericarditis in November 2020, a disease that affects the fluid-filled sac around the heart. – There were no concrete answers to the tests that could give me any diagnosis. It was extreme fatigue and extreme exhaustion, the midfield star explains. FRIEND: Guro Reiten plays with Kirby in Chelsea, but has hardly seen her in recent months. Photo: Terje Pedersen \/ NTB On the club team, she is a teammate with the Norwegian stars Guro Reiten and Maren Mjelde. She also played with Maria Thorisdottir until the midfielder’s transfer to Manchester United. The former says that she has hardly seen her teammate in recent months. – There has been a lot of uncertainty around Fran, and we have not really seen much of her. She has hardly been present at all, says Reiten to news. – I think maybe she needed us to stay away a bit too, so I have actually not had much to do with her the last six months before she appeared in training again in recent weeks, says the Norwegian star who has flourished in Chelsea and was crucial for the club to win a new league title this spring. Used oxygen tent For while Reiten helped secure the club’s sixth league gold, Kirby tried various treatments to find out the problems and get fit for this summer’s championship. – I saw a new specialist every day. I have been to Barcelona to meet some of the very best sports doctors, something I will be eternally grateful for, she says. BACK: Kirby in training for England before the opening match on Wednesday night. Photo: CARL RECINE \/ Reuters Among other things, they tried to treat the star with extra oxygen. – I got to put an oxygen tent in my house, and I learned different things that could help me. In addition to the help of a number of specialists, Kirby received support and advice from various sports psychologists and other athletes, including a marathon runner and a rower. “I want to pay back for all the support by going out on the field and showing what I can do and why I am in the European Championship squad,” she told the BBC. Kirby tells The Guardian that she does not stress with things she has no control over. It only gives negative energy, she points out. – I did not even think about joining the European Championship squad from February to April. It was not in my mind. So I think there is a reason why I feel so much better in this environment, because I did not stress about missing out on certain situations, Kirby tells the British newspaper. – Treat her to it For the treatments should have worked, and when England opens the European Championship against Austria at a packed Old Trafford on Wednesday night, Kirby is among the profiles the fans can look forward to seeing. The Norwegian friends believe this will give the big favorites a boost in the battle for a long-awaited championship gold. PRAISE: Maria Thorisdottir brags about her former teammate Kirby. Photo: Terje Pedersen \/ NTB – Fran at his very best can open any defense and has some skills with the ball and a speed that is raw, says Reiten and gets support from Maria Thorisdottir: – Fran is important. She is an incredibly good player, but they have 22 other good players on that team there anyway. So it’s kind of not focusing on a single player. But Fran is very good, she is a good player yes. The Norwegian midfielder is not surprised that the English star was ready for this summer’s big highlight. – No, I have followed Fran all the way and she feels healthy again which is great. So then it’s no surprise that she’s ready to be with England. So very nice for her, treat her to it. So I just hope she is not so good to us, Thorisdottir smiles.
\n

\n
ttn-69 <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Kirby posted the photo on Twitter in late April.
