When we got into a taxi, we should know that the driver is allowed to charge for the trip, says Njål Kleppe-Madland, chief consultant at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration carried out the inspection in Stavanger and at the airport on Sola on Sunday. A total of 63 taxis were checked. In other words, six out of ten taxis were not allowed to take passengers that day. There are far more than a corresponding control in the Oslo area last autumn, when one in four was banned from use. Borrowed licenses and false document Many of the 38 who were banned from use had to find the seat and have it visible in the car before they could pick up passengers again. – A driver who does not have a seat, may not be allowed to drive a taxi, says Kleppe-Madland. The seat shall be visible in a taxi, as in this picture taken by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration during the inspection on Sunday. Photo: The Norwegian Public Roads Administration But for others, it was not so little that was needed, and more are becoming police matters. A bus and a taxi were separated. They lack a license to drive. Both are affiliated with the same company, which had borrowed the license from another company. Both companies are reported to the police. A driver lacks professional driver competence, and is reported to the police for it. In addition, the tachograph did not work in the car. This also means a police report. A driver had a forged license document. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration checked taxis both in Stavanger and at Stavanger Airport in Sola. Photo: Statens vegvesen Three were fined for not having a vehicle card and one for not having the license plate visible. Nine taxis were only EU-controlled as ordinary passenger cars, something that is not enough for a car to be a taxi. Announces more inspections In the autumn of 2020, new rules were introduced in the taxi industry. In the industry, they are called a release. Whether you want to call it one or the other: The number of taxi licenses had risen 45 percent when the rules had been in effect for about a year. – This is no surprise to us in the industry, says Morten Eriksen in the Norwegian Taxi Association in Rogaland. It turns out everywhere that they reveal faults and shortcomings, he says, who hopes that those who do not have the paperwork in order will be in a hurry to get it. And it may be that they get. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has asked the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to have such controls over the entire country. – The inspections will continue, and one should expect that there will be more over the autumn, says Kleppe-Madland in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

ttn-69

– We take the results seriously.
