Subsequently, the Norwegian Occupational Safety and Health Administration visited the company, which offers guidance in health, environment and safety (HSE). There they found several errors and shortcomings with the company’s own HSE work. Now the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority notifies orders. Several deficiencies found In the report that news has obtained access to, six points are listed where the HSE company violates the Working Environment Act. Among other things, they found deficiencies in the employment contracts. In addition, none of the employees had had staff meetings in the past three years. The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority found these violations during the inspection: Errors in employment agreements Lack of knowledge about what constitutes a good working environment No organization chart with an overview of employees’ HSE responsibilities Little focus on HSE: Among other things, employee interviews have not been carried out for three years No mapping of HSE risks: Among other things, employees are deducted from their wages if their customers do not pay the bill. This can lead to psychological problems, the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority believes. Not making a plan for how to counter the psychological and physical ailments employees can get at work Kjersti Marie Gjerd is section leader in the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority. She says the company has now received several orders which, among other things, concern work with the psychosocial environment. – This applies to e-mails that employees have received, but also to the environment in general. It seems that the workplace is divided into two wings, with a poor climate for expression and a lack of communication. – This company gives advice on HSE, what do you think that they found so many deficiencies in just that? – I probably expected them to have more in place. But they can sell good services to others, even if they don’t make it work so well for themselves, says Gjerd. Section leader in the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority, Kjersti Marie Gjerd, says the company has received several orders. The terminations in the company must be done by mid-July this year. Photo: Privat Employees had their wages deducted In the report, the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority placed particular emphasis on the fact that employees have had their wages deducted if customers do not pay bills. “If the customer does not pay the bill, and the invoice is sent to debt collection, employees receive the debt collection claim as a salary deduction. When the customer pays the debt collection claim, the money is returned to the employee who has had his salary deducted, which in turn results in double taxation,” the report states. The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority believes that this is a breach of the Working Environment Act. They also think it can be psychologically stressful for the employees. Read the employer’s response further down in the case. – Completely hair-raising – I think it is completely hair-raising that a company places the risk on its employees instead of taking it themselves, says Robin Knutsen. He is the regional leader of the Trade and Office trade union and is not holding back in his criticism after reading the report from the Norwegian Labor Inspectorate. Robin Knutsen is happy that the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority has now documented what the trustees have been warning about for a long time. Photo: Synne Lykkebø Hafsaas / news – I mostly react to the fact that a company that makes a living by providing HSE advice to other companies has so little basic understanding of the HSE principle in its own company, he says. – They are unable to secure their employees and give them a good and safe working day. He is nevertheless happy that the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority has now carried out an inspection. – They have submitted a thorough report which underlines what the trustees have been warning about for a long time. Employer: – No serious deviations The report with notice of inspection was sent to the employer at the beginning of May. He tells news that they have read the report and that they are not concerned about the content. – There are no serious deviations. We should of course have better control over our own HSE work, since we ourselves deliver services within HSE, says daily manager Roald Christensen to news. He says they are now tightening up their routines. In an e-mail to news, sales manager Truls Arveschough wrote that they stopped drawing employees on salary due to customers’ debt collection demands in February this year. – We are working with the shop steward regarding the changes in the salary system and employment contract, he adds. The point concerning double taxation is something that leader Christensen strongly disagrees with on a daily basis: – If you are deducted a hundred kroner in debt collection, you will get another hundred kroner in collected debt two months later, so this does not result in double taxation, writes Christensen. Frid Mellingen Vågenes and Joakim Johnsen work in the company, and are happy that the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority has now carried out an inspection. Photo: Synne Lykkebø Hafsaas / news Satisfied with the report Frid Mellingen Vågenes and Joakim Johnsen are trustees in the company. They were the first to tell about the e-mails and the bad environment in the workplace. After the employees joined the trade union, they experienced that the boss stopped greeting them. The boss later apologized that he had behaved unacceptably, and said he had learned from this. Now the trustees are happy that the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority has visited and found several points that build on their experiences. – I am satisfied with the report. It shows that our notification to the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority was correct, they wrote in a joint SMS to news.

ttn-69

In February this year, news told about a boss in Bergen, who was sending e-mails to his employees in the HMS company Internsikring AS.
