TV images show the rental car parked on the pavement.  There is a lot of police in the area.  Several injured The car that hit the pedestrians was stopped by the police at the entrance to a tunnel that leads from Brooklyn to Manhattan.  The police bomb squad is now on the scene.  According to the TV channel ABC 7, at least four people are injured.  A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with critical injuries.  Three other men on mopeds were hit, but escaped with minor injuries.  According to the New York Post, a cyclist must have been left hanging under the car.  Tried to flee The car is from the company U-haul, which operates the rental of moving vehicles.  The driver of the car allegedly tried to flee the scene, but was caught by the police.  The police inform ABC that the driver must have evaded control prior to the incident.  City council politician Justin Brannan writes on Twitter that several people are seriously injured.  He also writes that he does not think it was an ordinary accident, but that a possible motive is unknown.  According to NTB, this is happening at the same time as the question of the death penalty is to be considered in the trial against Sayfullo Saipov, an Islamist extremist who drove down and killed eight people in New York in 2017.
