On Saturday, Trønder got their first league game from the start, and it didn’t happen against just anyone. The giants PSG stood in the second half, led by probably the best footballer of all time, Lionel Messi. And for the Norwegian, the Messi meeting made the day something very special. – It means an incredible amount to me that I was able to start that match. I think most people know how much Messi means to me, so it’s a bit surreal, says Kamanzi to news. – My idol in everything It ended with a 1-2 loss away to the star gallery of PSG, but the Norwegian defender made a fine appearance before being replaced after just over an hour. – What has Messi meant and means to you as a footballer? – He is my biggest idol and always has been. I have included the war in many discussions about him, I have him as a wallpaper on my phone, I always have, I have previously seen practically all of his matches. He is my idol in everything, says Kamanzi. He says that he was taken by Messi as early as the age of seven and has been since. It was his playing style and feints in particular that saved him. – What was it like to stumble out on the same course as him? – That was wierd. I never usually look at my opponents during warm-ups, but for the first time in a long time I had to turn around and zone out a bit. I saw him make some finishes and put the ball in the cross, then I just thought “ok, ok, he’s here”. Warren Kamanzi (tv) gave Messi a tough fight for the ball in this situation. Photo: FRANCK FIFE / AFP – Messi just smiled at me A little later, when the teams were standing in the tunnel to go out on the pitch just before the match, a situation arose that Kamanzi will never forget. – I had a moment with him in the tunnel. I looked to my left and noticed that he was suddenly standing next to me. He looked in my direction, but behind me, and I zoned out and stood staring at him for a bit. He noticed that, so he just smiled at me, and I smiled back. It was absolutely sick, then I really got ready for battle, he says with a smile. – Were you in any duels with him out on the field? – Yes, he tried to pass me once. He had dribbled one and was going to move past me on the left, but I put my body in front and won the ball, he says. Wanted Messi’s kit – got no When the match was over, the “get Messi’s kit” project started. But Kamanzi was not alone in that goal. – The captain (Brecht Dejaeghere), who is also a huge Messi fan, also wanted the kit. So we went up to him together. We had agreed that he would get the first kit, and if Messi had more to give away, I would get the second. We greeted Messi, who was kind and nice, but he said something and I didn’t understand anything. But he pointed towards the stands, and I interpreted that to mean that he was going to give away a suit to someone in the stands. I just said that it was perfectly fine, then we gave him a hug and left, he says. Messi posted photo The surreal day continued later in the evening when Kamanzi checked his phone and opened Instagram. – Messi posted a picture of the situation where he tried to dribble me. It’s fat, I’ll frame it and hang it on the wall, he asserts. This photo was posted by Messi on Instagram after Saturday’s match. It means a lot to Kamanzi. Photo: Skjermdump / Instagram The right-back, who has two games for the Norwegian U21 national team, has previously played two cup games for Toulouse, but this was the first real test for the former elite league player. Now he has ambitions to play his way to a permanent place in the French team, which is now in 12th place after 22 rounds. – I hope there will be more playing time in the next few games. Now we have had a very tight match schedule, so there have been good opportunities for playing time. But after next week we will only play one game a week for almost the rest of the season, and then it will be more difficult, because the supposedly best will be physically fit to play everything. I just have to do my part in training and hope it lasts.

ttn-69

He is living the boyhood dream, Warren Kamanzi, who was sold from Tromsø to the top French club Toulouse last Christmas.
