It is owned by the famous MMA fighter Jose Aldo. He is from Brazil and supports the right-wing populist ex-president who still has not accepted that he lost the election in Brazil last year. Bolsonaro has traveled to Miami when news finds the house. But two Brazilian women who do not wish to be named have taken up positions outside the house with a large flag. Bolsonaro has lived in the gray house on the corner since New Years. Photo: Pontus / Hook – We are here because we love Bolsonaro, says one. Her husband, Vidal Visconte, who works as a piano seller, however, likes to speak his mind – I’m here to support him. He is honest, even when it comes to saying no. I’m a big fan of Trump too. They are both honest, says Visconte, who has lived in the United States for 37 years. A man and two Brazilian women have made the trip to Bolsonaro’s house in Florida. Did he incite the protesters? Two days before Luiz IIgnacio Lula DaSilva was sworn in as president of Brazil, Bolsonaro left the country and came to the house at Disneyworld. It is located in a resort area with access control and its own water park. Just across the road, we glimpse an enormous water slide. American media have already shown pictures from inside the house, which, among other things, has a bedroom decorated with the yellow minions figures. It is a short distance from the presidential palace in Brasília, where Bolsonaro has lived in recent years. On 8 January, protesters stormed the National Assembly in the capital. Several claim Bolsonaro both incited the protesters and was involved in the planning. When the storming happened, he was already in Florida – on an expired diplomatic visa. According to the Financial Times, he applied for a six-month tourist visa to stay in Florida on 27 January. Speech at Trump’s resort Jair Bolsonaro has been called the “Trump of the tropics” and has been in close contact with his ex-presidential colleague before he moved to Florida. Now they are both there, and on Friday Bolsonaro appeared at Trump’s hotel, the Doral in Miami, at an event organized by the pro-Trump network Turning Point USA. Bolsonaro said nothing about the storming, but incited Brazilian supporters in attendance. – I have great faith in Brazil, and I am sure that Brazil will not end up with the current government, he said. Bolsonaro also hinted that the elections in Brazil last year did not go well, Jair Bolsonaro has been called “the Trump of the tropics”. On Friday, he addressed supporters and Republicans at Trump’s Doral resort in Miami. Photo: Rebecca Blackwell / AP Accuses DeSantis of protecting him Florida’s top leader is Republican Ron DeSantis, who is considered a hot Republican presidential candidate for next year. Democrats in Florida are reacting to DeSantis letting Bolsonaro stay here on an expired diplomatic visa even after the National Assembly in Brazil was stormed. Ron DeSantis made a landslide election in Florida last November and now governs the state with a large Republican majority. He is one of the favorites to become the Republicans’ next presidential candidate Photo: Lynne Sladky / AP Fentrice Driskell is the Democrats’ minority leader in the Florida state assembly. – It is not surprising to me that someone like Bolsonaro comes here to get protection, he says. – He sees that our governor and Donald Trump, who lives here, want to make the United States a nationalist and right-wing populist place. Fentrice Driskell believes it sends the wrong signal that Bolsonaro is protected in Florida if he is investigated at home. Photo: Joey Arellano Driskell thinks it’s bad advertising for tourism Florida lives off of Bolsonaro being here. – I get messages on Twitter every time Bolsonaro shows up at supermarkets. – He does not reflect Florida’s ideals. We don’t want him here. This is not good advertising for the tourist destination of Florida in the world, says Driskell to news. “Thank you for last time” from Lula The new president, Lula da Silva, is not making it any easier for his predecessor. During his inauguration in Congress, he accused Bolsonaro of “genocide” during the corona pandemic. And he has several times used the word “fascist” about the departed president. Bolsonaro made fun of Lula when he was in prison. Now Lula is president, and his predecessor is in the US and fears a prison sentence. Photo: ADRIANO MACHADO / Reuters During his visit to Argentina last month, Lula said the following: – I want to apologize to the Argentine people for all the rudeness of Brazil’s previous president. And I apologize for all the insults he made towards the President of Argentina. Downfall in Brazil In his home country, the former president has gone from defeat to defeat after the election. This week his candidate lost the important battle to become the new leader of parliament’s upper house, the Senate. At the same time, the re-elected leader of Congress now has good cooperation with the Lula government, having been Bolsonaro’s sworn supporter in the previous presidential term. Bolsonaro is under investigation after his supporters attacked Brazil’s Congress on January 8. Photo: Eraldo Peres / AP Another important supporter was Attorney General Augusto Aras. But he has ordered an investigation into the former president following the January 8 attack on Congress and other buildings in Brasília. The order for an investigation is probably the most important reason why Jair Bolsonaro has applied for an extended stay in the USA. So maybe there are other things than swimming pools and water slides that keep Bolsonaro in Florida.

ttn-69

– He has not been here for the last few days.
