The two Norwegians who were injured in Ukraine are now on their way out of the country. The Ukrainian doctor Elena Kondratenko tells news. She has been close to the injured Norwegians in recent days. They were injured while helping civilians in the war-torn city of Bakhmut on Thursday. They will now be on their way to the west of the country, says Kondratenko. He does not want to talk about the details of the evacuation. SERIOUSLY INJURED: Simon Johnsen was seriously injured in Bakhmut. He has suffered burns to both arms and external injuries to his head. Terrible situation – The situation in Bakhmut is terrible. It’s a bloodbath. It is pure terrorism, says Simon Johnsen to news on Friday evening. He has been to areas such as Kramatorsk, Dnipro, Odesa and Kyiv. Lately he has been in Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine. The city has been hit hard by Russian attacks for several weeks. On Thursday, the attacks also hit Johnsen and his colleague Simon Trelvik directly. – It seems that it is about taking the most lives. There are horrible conditions in there. At the same time, we learned that there would be civilians affected by the bombing. Johnsen and Trelvik traveled in the direction of the matches. When they arrived it was quiet. – We parked and went towards the injured, sat down and got ready to assist. Then they started shooting at the people who were lying on the ground, where we were sitting. Johnsen suffered a concussion, has lost partial hearing in one ear, has burns on both arms and external injuries to the head. Photo: Private Trelvik suffered burns to 30 to 40 percent of his body, two burst eardrums and splinters in his body, writes VG. – He has serious, deep injuries to his body. The biggest danger for him now is dehydration and infection, but fortunately he has a good team around him, says Johnsen. He adds that both he and Trelvik are stable. Happy to be alive When asked how he has been in the aftermath of the attack, Johnsen replies that he is happy to be alive. – It is frightening and disgusting. It’s not a good feeling. But it is a risk you choose to take when you travel to such areas. You know it can happen, he says. He adds that both he and Trelvik want to return to Norway. – If you are a Norwegian abroad and get injured or sick, it is good to come home.
