After reading Selma Jenvin-Steinsvåg (15)’s posts in Aftenposten Si; D, I, who is also a child born via surrogacy, have become interested in joining this debate. I so agree with Selma. Now it is very important that we who are these children that the debate is about, are not only talked about or to, but also with. Is it not the case that we are the best to respond to the concern that so many have and have had on our behalf? It is probably the case that we children who have been born via surrogacy know best how it is and how we experience it. Politicians and individuals must speak to us before speaking on our behalf. Selma participated in Dagsnytt 18 on news, and it struck me: Every time you talk about surrogacy, it always ends up being about women’s rights. I mean this is going to be completely wrong. Of course, it is important with the woman who gives birth to us and that she is taken care of. But when we are born, that process is over. We are here. Then the further process must be mostly about our, the children’s rights, and that we can live good and safe lives here in Norway, together with our parents. Selma tried to say something about this, but I experience that politicians face this by not wanting to talk about it, only that surrogacy is problematic. They do not want to relate to the fact that many children have legal rights that are worse than other children in Norway. In the debate on news, AUF was asked several times what they think about these children’s problems and that, for example, Selma grew up for eight years before she got legal parents on paper. AUF does not answer this, not even when the question is asked several times and in different ways. The only thing the representative of AUF was concerned about was women’s rights. She does not once focus on us children and our problems. I think this is extremely badly done against Selma and her brave attempts to have a debate, and it shows me that AUF is not so concerned about the children, but very concerned that surrogacy should not be allowed. But we children are already here. The surrogacy process has happened. The rights of women are very important, but I have good contact with both the woman who gave eggs and who gave birth to us, and neither of them says that their rights have ever been taken into account. They are super proud that they have helped us become a family. None of them are poor either, so those who say that surrogacy is the same as buying children from poor women do not quite know how this can work. I wish the debate could soon be a bit about us, because we are also quite important in this.

ttn-69

I am a 15 year old girl who has a twin sister and two fathers.
