They recommend that homeowners dig ditches to direct the water away from the property.  &#8211; Chop up the ice &#8211; Try and chop up the ice.  Remove leaves and other debris that clog stormwater drains near your property, recommends Deputy Fire Chief Eivind Ingvaldsen.  In a home on N\u00f8tter\u00f8y, a basement was filled with nearly 50 centimeters of meltwater.  &#8211; We pump and have a long hose on the outlet so as not to threaten other people&#8217;s property, says Ingvaldsen. Fire Chief Andrew Wright recommends disconnecting electrical equipment and moving belongings up from the basement.  Fire brigade advice after water leak All electricity in the flooded premises and rooms is switched off.  If possible, move objects and fixtures onto safe ground.  Get help with drainage or bilge pumps.  Pay close attention to hygiene after contact with wastewater that has penetrated.  Call the insurance company.  Get help with damage limitation and drying out the rooms (the insurance companies assist with such contact).
