The fact that they have ended up in this horrible situation after Marianne Amundsen went to work in Nav, I am deeply sorry for that. I would like to express my apology on behalf of all of Nav to the family and relatives. This is what Nav director Hans Christian Holte says to news. For the first time, the Nav management apologizes to the next of kin after the murder of Nav Årstad last year. Department manager Marianne Amundsen died after being stabbed by Nav user Abdella Ahmed Haji (40) during a user meeting. WAS KILLED: Marianne Amundsen was in a user conversation with Abdella Ahmed Haji (40). He attacked Amundsen and his colleague. Photo: Ole Myklebust Amundsen The family is considering a lawsuit The verdict was announced yesterday. Amundsen’s family and their legal aid have previously demanded a public apology from Nav, but this has not happened until now. The family said at the same time that they are considering a lawsuit against Nav. After the verdict, Amundsen’s brother, Pål Gerhard Olsen, says that they are still considering a lawsuit. – I have been further strengthened in my belief in going to court, says Pål Gerhard Olsen. On Monday, a man was sentenced to the law’s strictest punishment after killing his sister at Nav Årstad last year. The man also tried to kill his colleague Ida Aulin, but she survived the attack. The man has been sentenced to 21 years in custody. – We are relieved, but at the same time feel an emptiness, because all this is so completely meaningless, he says. – Makes a deep impression Olsen, as well as Amundsen’s four children, are clear that they do not think security was up to the requirements on the day her husband Marianne was killed. It is established in the judgment that Marianne Amundsen had no opportunity to flee from the killer. – It makes a deep impression on me, says Nav director Hans Christian Holte. In the minimum requirements for Nav’s security, it is stated that “The interior must create a physical barrier between the user and the case manager”. The family believes that he was not sufficiently present during the day of the attack. They have long called for a public apology from Nav. It has been absent from Nav Vestland and the municipal part of Nav in Bergen. But today there was an apology from Nav director Hans Christian Holte. Holte is also sending a separate letter to the family these days – It was the worst thing that could happen, that one of our employees is killed at work. It is painful for the whole organization and is of course excruciating pain for both the family and the next of kin, so I would like to express my deepest regret and apology to the family on the basis of this, he says. – We know after the court case that it was just luck that Ida Aulin got out of there alive. There were only tiny margins, he says. Photo: Julianne Bråten Mossing / news Will shed light on the safety culture The Nav employee who survived the attack told the district court that she believes Amundsen could have got out if the table had been positioned differently. During the trial, it became clear that it was nevertheless possible to pass the physical barrier along the wall. The family and Nav disagree about the meaning of the wording of the requirement for the physical barrier. They believe that security was not taken seriously enough in the entire Nav system. The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority has also concluded several violations of the Working Environment Act. Among other things, there was no risk assessment that users could bring weapons into the audience room. – We are most concerned with elucidating the framework around which this murder could happen, says the brother. Needs a legally binding judgment The survivors are dependent on financial support from the trade union in order to take civil action against Nav. The union is still considering this. – We are in contact with Amundsen’s family and have said that we need a final judgment before we can support a civil lawsuit, says Daniel Charles Hextall, press officer in the Joint Organization to news. Haji will appeal the sentence. Thus, it may take time before the trade union makes a decision. – We will follow the appeal and the case going forward, and also see if there are other ways to get answers to the questions that we and Marianne’s family are dealing with, says Hextall.

ttn-69

– I only have one deep regret and apology to offer to Marianne Amundsen’s family.
