These messages have been received by women asking for help for Christmas via the website Finn.no. news has received permission to reproduce them. – You suddenly feel that you have “sold yourself”, without being aware of it. You feel dirty and vulnerable, says “Kari”, who is a single mother of two. Does she feel she is putting the children at risk? news has been in contact with several women who have posted Finn ads, asking for financial help. Some people are struggling to pay their electricity bills. Others cannot afford gifts for the children. – I think there are many desperate men out there who try to take advantage of someone in a vulnerable situation. They probably think that we are so desperate that we do everything for money or gifts, writes another single mother. None of the women want to be named, but they agree to news telling their stories. Photo: Screenshot Sex, acquaintances and dirty panties are some of what men ask for. – You suddenly feel that you may be putting the children in danger by asking for help, when it is precisely them you are trying to protect in the whole thing, writes “Kari”. She talks about a difficult financial situation now in the run-up to Christmas. Over half a million Norwegians live below the low-income limit. Figures from Statistics Norway show that 115,000 children under the age of 18 live in families with persistently low incomes. – I feel that I am crawling to the cross, with my skin exposed and vulnerable, by asking for help. And then you encounter sexual harassment. It just makes the whole situation even worse. Known problem for the Single Parents’ Association Another single mother says that a man approached her and wanted to go with her to the store to shop for Christmas. – He said he could shop for me, and that I could give him some cuddles\/sex. Then I blocked him. It was terribly uncomfortable and very strange. At first he seemed serious, and I got the impression that he wanted to help. Then he wanted sex in return, she says. Cathrine Austrheim is leader of the Single Parents’ Association. She knows the problem well. Cathrine Austrheim from the Single Parents’ Association believes that society needs a change in attitude when it comes to single mothers: – Each one of us is responsible for that. It is completely reprehensible, and shows how society still has bad attitudes towards being a single mother, says Austrheim. She herself has experienced such attitudes as a single mother of two children. – You lose faith in some people. It’s terribly uncomfortable. At the same time, you feel ashamed, and wonder if that is how people perceive you. Asked for sexual services after having a miscarriage It is not only single mothers who experience sexual harassment when they ask for help via the website Finn. A young woman aged 19 tells news that two different men have asked her to send dirty panties in return for the Christmas help. – I think it’s sad that people take advantage of the already vulnerable situation that I’m in. Especially in relation to how young I am, when men aged 60+ offer me sexual services. It makes me feel dirty, she writes to news. Furthermore, she says that she has reported to the police the messages she has received from men who want sexual services in return. – Important to report Press officer in Finn, Linda Glomlien writes to news that it is sad to hear that someone experiences such things on their advertisements. – It is important that those who experience something undesirable on their advertisement report it immediately, as we do not always detect such incidents in our system. The reporting on the website is available in the form of a separate button. – We go through the conversation manually, and see if there is reason to send a warning, or to make a possible ban from Finn.
