This program, which restricts the transit of certain vehicles, aims to improve air quality and reduce smog levels in the metropolitan region.

Understanding “Hoy No Circula” Restrictions

Drivers planning to use their vehicles must first check the last digit of their license plates and the corresponding verification badge. The restrictions are not confined to Mexico City’s 16 districts but also affect various municipalities in the State of Mexico, including:

Atizapan de Zaragoza

Coacalco de Berriozábal

Cuautitlan

Cuautitlán Izcalli

Chalco

Chicoloapan

Chimalhuacan

Ecatepec de Morelos

Huixquilucan

Ixtapaluca

La Paz

Naucalpan de Juárez

Nezahualcoyotl

Nicolas Romero

Tecámac

Tlalnepantla de Baz

Tultitlán

If your route takes you through any of these areas, you must adhere to the “Hoy No Circula” rules.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The primary goal of this program is to minimize the number of active vehicles and, consequently, lower emission levels. Each Saturday’s restrictions are determined based on several factors: the vehicle’s assigned hologram, the last digit of the license plate, and whether the Saturday is classified as even or odd. Importantly, these limitations are not in effect throughout the entire day; they apply from 05:00 to 22:00. Unless extraordinary measures are enacted due to environmental contingencies, vehicles can operate freely outside these hours.

Specific Restrictions for June 13, 2026

According to the official calendar for June 13, 2026, it is classified as the second Saturday of an even week. In this case, vehicles with a hologram 1 that end in an even digit are strictly prohibited from circulation during the specified hours. However, vehicles with holograms 0 and 00 can circulate freely. On the other hand, vehicles with hologram 2 face an absolute restriction and may not circulate on any Saturday throughout the year.

Exceptions to the “Hoy No Circula” Rules

There are notable exceptions to these regulations:

Vehicles powered by electricity, natural gas, or hybrid technology.

Cars registered for people with disabilities.

Vehicles designated for urban public transport, including funeral services.

Vehicles used for school or passenger transportation.

Vehicles assigned to public security and civil protection.

Consequences for Non-Compliance

Failing to adhere to the “Hoy No Circula” regulations can result in severe penalties. Fines range between 20 and 30 times the value of the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), amounting to approximately 1,924.40 pesos at minimum and up to 2,886.60 pesos at the highest level. Additionally, drivers risk having their vehicles impounded.

For a safer and cleaner environment, it’s essential for drivers to understand and comply with these regulations. By doing so, they not only avoid penalties but also contribute to the overall health of the community.

Photo | Max Titov

General News – 2

This weekend, the “Hoy No Circula” Saturday program returns, a critical initiative from the Secretariat of the Environment of Mexico City (SEDEMA) designed to curb vehicular pollution in the Valley of Mexico.
