22 November 2022 at 07:43 Rescue operation off Crete after distress call from boat with hundreds on board The Greek coastguard has launched a rescue operation southwest of Crete after receiving distress calls from a fishing boat believed to have up to 500 people on board. There are strong winds in the area, which makes the rescue work difficult, a spokesperson for the Greek coast guard tells AFP. The emergency call came shortly after midnight. Two cargo ships, a tanker and two Italian fishing boats are helping in the rescue operation, according to the coast guard.
