The RM7L, which also features RGB MiniLED technology, sits one tier below in terms of quality and performance.

Available in sizes of 115″, 98″, and 85″, I had the chance to test the 85-inch model. This version boasts an impressive 8,736 local dimming zones, enabling remarkably precise light control, making it hard to differentiate its image from that of an OLED panel. Such a high count significantly enhances black levels and bright area segmentation.

The RM9L impressively minimizes halo effects in subtitles on black backgrounds. Furthermore, despite MiniLED challenges in depicting bright points in scenes like space sequences, the RM9L performs admirably.

Improved Viewing Angles and Design

Although the RM9L and X11L utilize differing backlighting technologies, they share the advanced WHVA 2.0 Ultra LCD panel. This helps reduce the gap between the backlight LEDs and the LCD panel, resulting in a sleeker design for a MiniLED television.

Viewing angles have been enhanced due to improved glass that directs light. There are minor color shifts—slight reddish when viewed from the right and greenish from the left—but these nuances are not prominent during typical content viewing.

Dynamic Picture Modes and Brightness

The FilmMaker mode impressed by preserving the panel’s full brightness potential while ensuring natural skin tones and excellent color volume, covering 100% of the BT.2020 color space. The movie mode elevates brightness and shadow detail, hitting a peak of 4,000 nits, making it effective for bright room settings.

Initial tests showed improved motion interpolation settings, which is a common area of concern for Chinese brands. However, further analysis across diverse content types will solidify this finding.

User Experience with Google TV 14

The RM9L, showcased with Google TV powered by the Pentonic 800 processor, offered fluid navigation and swift app launches. However, we did not test the new Gemini integration or voice command functionalities.

Sound Quality: Enhancements Needed

Despite the RM9L boasting a stated 240 W power from its speakers, audio experience relied on a Bang & Olufsen-tuned system that, while balanced, lacked the punch expected from such a high-end model. Supplementing with a sound bar is recommended to fully harness the audio capabilities, especially with Dolby Atmos support.

Pricing Strategy: Competitive Advantage

With a starting price of 5,999 euros for the 85″ model, the RM9L remains competitive, particularly against Samsung’s MicroLED RGB offerings priced higher. This positions TCL firmly against high-end OLED televisions, providing a viable alternative in the large-screen market.

As TCL continues to innovate within the television space, the RM9L stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to offering advanced technology at accessible prices.

General News – 2

One of the few TCL factories outside China is located just 40 km from Warsaw, leading the brand to officially present its range of televisions for 2026 in Poland.
