Cuba has recently received vital humanitarian aid from the United States, featuring 600 food and hygiene kits aimed at families impacted by Hurricane Melissa. This initiative, organized by the Catholic agency C\u00e1ritas, is a testament to international solidarity in times of crisis.<\/p>\n
The supplies were delivered through Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Members of the American Catholic community presented the donation to C\u00e1ritas Cuba’s director, Carmen Maria Nodal, at Santiago de Cuba’s Antonio Maceo International Airport. Despite no reported fatalities, the hurricane caused significant destruction, damaging over 116,000 homes, impacting 600 state medical infrastructures, and disrupting about 2,000 educational centers. Moreover, the storm devastated nearly 100,000 hectares of crops while also affecting transportation, telecommunications, and utilities.<\/p>\n
Initial support from the U.S. government amounted to a remarkable three million dollars, with an additional six million announced in February. Donations received so far include essential items such as rice, beans, oils, sugar, water purification tablets, cooking utensils, blankets, and flashlights, providing crucial assistance to communities struggling to recover.<\/p>\n
