Initially, it’s easy to overlook the absence of your O2 fiber connection, but soon enough, you realize it has been disconnected yet again—this time due to ongoing underground work on the A-5. As I wait for a solution, I find myself among many frustrated residents who are grappling with the same issue.

Recurring Service Interruptions

Service interruptions have become a recurring theme. This recent outage follows similar incidents in July, August, and November 2025, alongside January 2026 disruptions caused by the same construction work. Reports on social media indicate that this latest outage has impacted various areas, affecting clients of Movistar/O2, Orange, Vodafone, Jazztel, and Digi.

Compensating with Unlimited Data

Unlimited mobile data serves as a temporary fix. Upon discovering the issue, I contacted O2, who confirmed that the outage was due to a fiber optic cable cut. They assured me that they worked to resolve the problem and, as a consolation, offered unlimited mobile data for all lines under my contract. While this measure helps alleviate some frustration, it doesn’t completely eradicate the problem.

Tethering as a Lifesaver

Tethering options enable continued connectivity. To stay productive, I relied on tethering my smartphone to use mobile data for my computer. This setup sufficiently supported my work demands and allowed me to enjoy streaming on my TV via Chromecast. Although it’s not the same as having a reliable home internet connection, it certainly helps bridge the gap during outages.

The Impact on Local Businesses

Businesses are also feeling the effects. My local supermarket faced its own challenges during this outage—unable to accept mobile payments, shoppers were forced back to cash or physical cards, reminiscent of a decade ago. This disruption not only inconvenienced customers but also raised alarms about the modern reliance on technology for transactions.

Being Proactive Is Key

Stay ahead by reaching out to your service provider. Users can take steps to mitigate issues like this by contacting their service provider to activate unlimited data if not automatically applied. It’s wise to be proactive since operators may not track exactly which users are affected. In my case, a quick call resulted in about a six-minute wait before an agent activated the bonuses.

Patience Is Essential

In the face of uncertainty, patience is crucial. Often during such outages, there is no clear timeline for resolution. Previous cuts have lasted around two days, and as this outage approaches a third day, both service providers and local authorities offer little information. All users can do is remain patient, holding on until the service is restored.

General News – 2

The Inconvenience of Internet Outages Saturday can unexpectedly become a challenging day, especially when your internet connection abruptly cuts off.
