In September 2025, at one of the pavilions of IFA in Berlin, the Chinese company Dreame unveiled a prototype that appeared to be straight out of a child\u2019s nightmare: a robot vacuum mounted on four caterpillar legs<\/strong>, capable of climbing stairs.<\/p>\n

The Cyber X (as it was named) ascended a flight of stairs in under thirty seconds, navigating slopes of up to 42 degrees while attendees filmed it with expressions of bewilderment and fascination, witnessing something that shouldn\u2019t move that way but does.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Months later, at CES in Las Vegas, the gadget was showcased again, this time alongside mini-LED TVs, AI glasses, a red light therapy mask, an air purifier for pets, and the sketch (currently just a sketch) of a 1,876 horsepower electric sports car<\/a>\u2014all under the same brand. An ecosystem of ambition.<\/p>\n

Dreame is eight years old. For a significant portion of the European public, however, it has only been visible for about five years.<\/strong> It was in this time that it became the number one brand in robot vacuums by volume of units distributed in Europe, according to IDC data from 2025.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Massachusetts… iRobot declared bankruptcy in late 2025. The Chinese company Picea Robotics, which had been a creditor, supplier, and competitor of iRobot, acquired it. All-in-one<\/em> from Shenzhen.<\/p>\n

1,500 kilometers northwest from Picea\u2019s headquarters, less than 100 kilometers from Shanghai, lies the city of Suzhou. The story of Dreame cannot be understood without Suzhou.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zhui Mi Park: Two Dozen Buildings and an Obsession<\/h2>\n

Suzhou is one of those Chinese cities that combines ancient heritage with a bewildering industrial density. It is famous for its classical gardens and also for being one of the most powerful industrial centers in Jiangsu province.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Suzhou has a longstanding connection with vacuum cleaners<\/strong>: the home cleaning appliance industry has been rooted in the area since the late 1970s. Like many other regions in China, it houses manufacturers, often originally established by former employees of Western brands that set up their factories there.<\/p>\n

The headquarters of Dreame is called Zhui Mi Park. It\u2019s a complex of about twenty buildings located in the economic zone of Wuzhong, where the company consolidates offices, R&D laboratories, production lines, and testing centers. The robot vacuum factory occupies 130,000 square meters and produces over 9,000 units daily.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nearby is the high-speed motor plant, inaugurated in December 2020, housing six production lines with a capacity of four million motors per year. This is a vertically integrated model reminiscent of an automobile manufacturer<\/strong> rather than a small appliance brand.<\/p>\n

The facilities allow testing of up to 740 units simultaneously in cycles of between 3,000 and 5,000 hours.<\/p>\n

Dreame aims to expand beyond vacuums. In January 2026, they introduced a catalog featuring washing machines, dishwashers with mechanical arms, smart refrigerators, smart air conditioners, the mentioned mini-LED TVs, smart rings, health monitoring watches, AI glasses, submerged action cameras, lawn mowers, pool cleaners, and the Nebula NEXT 01, a prototype electric hypercar boasting 1,876 horsepower and 0-100 km\/h acceleration in just 1.8 seconds.<\/p>\n

Only weeks later, Dreame doubled down with an audacious advertisement during the Super Bowl, the world’s most expensive advertising showcase, spending $10 million on a 30-second spot showcasing the Nebula alongside a vacuum cleaner and lawn mower transforming into robots. This extravagant move signifies their intent to exhibit power and ambition.<\/p>\n

As reported by Reuters<\/em><\/a>, Dreame is exploring the possibility of building a plant in Brandenburg, Germany, and is assembling a team of around 1,000 automotive professionals to integrate AI and intelligent driving functions in their vehicles.<\/p>\n

Challenges Ahead<\/h3>\n

Despite its ambitious trajectory, Dreame faces concerns about after-sales service and distribution conflicts. Many users have expressed frustrations regarding customer support through various platforms. Sean Chen acknowledged that in the past two or three years, the rapid growth of their business has made it challenging to keep up with service demands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In terms of concrete actions, the company has expanded its service center network across Europe, improving delivery times for spare parts and offering a three-year warranty on flagship models. However, they still rely on external service for support.<\/p>\n

Dreame\u2019s emphasis on showcasing its facilities rather than more glamorous locations like Shanghai or Shenzhen sends a clear message: they want to be seen as a manufacturing company rather than a marketing brand commonly associated with many Chinese companies that thrive abroad and later fail due to quality issues.<\/p>\n

The ambition is reflected in their organizational structure, with 60% of their 18,000 employees involved in R&D, supporting a rapid innovation cadence that has brought them this far. However, the question looming over their ambitious aspirations is whether their current structure can support an expansion to 30 product lines encompassing diverse categories like televisions and electric hypercars.<\/p>\n
