While many drivers in Spain get stuck on mountain roads every winter as soon as a few centimeters of snow falls due to driving cars that are not prepared for those conditions, the CEO of Bugatti wanted to offer a most unexpected winter driving lesson.<\/p>\n

Mate Rimac, a 37-year-old Croatian businessman passionate about the supercars he manufactures, recently shared on his social networks a video<\/a> which shows something completely surprising: he prefers to drive a Bugatti Tourbillon worth 4 million euros<\/strong> in heavy snow conditions.<\/p>\n

This is not an impulsive act, but rather a rigorous testing program that seeks to validate the behavior of Bugatti’s exclusive supercar in extreme situations in the real world.<\/p>\n

The First Bugatti “Snowplow”<\/h2>\n

The contrast with what we usually see on Spanish roads during the first snowfalls of the season is disconcerting. While many drivers with front-wheel drive SUVs equipped with summer tires end up trapped by not being able to drive in a few centimeters of snow, the Bugatti CEO demonstrates that the problem is not the type of vehicle but the preparation of the vehicle with the correct equipment to face these adverse weather conditions.<\/p>\n

In his Instagram video<\/a>, Rimac compares two vehicles for snow driving: a properly prepared Jeep Wrangler and the Bugatti Tourbillon. His choice of the supercar over a 4×4 vehicle specifically designed for rough terrain highlights a crucial truth about winter driving.<\/p>\n

As revealed by the “VP1” callsign on its side, the Bugatti Tourbillon features a staggering power output of 1,800 HP and is the first unit to circulate freely on open roads, priced at 4 million dollars.<\/p>\n

Rimac explains in his video that the Tourbillon is fitted with high-quality winter tires, a determining factor that many Spanish drivers lack when getting stuck on winter roads. These specialized tires provide sufficient grip to maintain control of the 1,800 HP engine, even under snowy conditions and with wide rolling surfaces. Ironically, this extremely expensive vehicle proves to be more manageable in winter than a poorly equipped conventional SUV.<\/p>\n

According to Rimac, the process to get the Tourbillon from a concept to road testing has taken five years. These tests are conducted with a technician monitoring the car\u2019s telemetry in real-time, collecting valuable data on how the hypercar responds in extreme winter conditions. The CEO acknowledges that while they have tested it at various tracks for two years, real-world testing presents unique challenges.<\/p>\n
