This individual is alleged to be a part of a criminal organization specializing in fraud, specifically the notorious “uncle’s story” scam. Alongside his arrest, authorities recovered a stolen vehicle with false documentation and seized illicit drugs, making this case emblematic of larger issues concerning elderly exploitation and organized crime.<\/p>\n

The Elderly Victim and the Scam<\/h2>\n

The incident unfolded on November 13 when an 87-year-old retiree<\/strong> approached the Alem Sub-Police Station<\/strong> to report that a woman had called him, masquerading as his granddaughter. This scammer urged the retiree to withdraw money for a currency exchange\u2014an invitation to hand over cash to a man posing as a bank employee. <\/p>\n

Within minutes of the initial call, this fake employee knocked on the retiree’s door, leading to the handover of 400,000 Argentine pesos<\/strong>. It wasn’t until hours later that the victim discovered his cell phone was missing, confirming that he had fallen prey to a sophisticated scam.<\/p>\n

Investigation and Arrest<\/h2>\n

Following the retiree’s complaint, an investigation was launched, led by Jos\u00e9 Ignacio Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> of the LN Alem Tax Assistant<\/strong>, in collaboration with the SubDDI Leandro N. Alem<\/strong>, the UFIyJ No. 8 of Jun\u00edn<\/strong>, and the Jun\u00edn Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office<\/strong>. Investigators employed public and private surveillance footage and monitored phone communications, which eventually led them to identify a gray Toyota Etios vehicle<\/strong> tied to the crime. This vehicle had been flagged for aggravated automobile robbery<\/strong> since August.<\/p>\n

Detailed analysis of the surveillance footage and vehicle movements allowed investigators to gather enough evidence to secure a search warrant for a property in Jun\u00edn.
