High housing prices have made buying a house little more than a utopia for many people, especially the youngest. Todd Graves, a Louisiana millionaire who founded the fried chicken restaurant chain Raising Cane’s<\/a>, decided to do something different and quite crazy: build a house on the top of a giant tree<\/strong> in the garden of his mansion in Baton Rouge. This is not a toy house; it is a real house, boasting everything you would expect to find in a conventional home, offering breathtaking views of the entire landscape from above.<\/p>\n

A House, on a House, Near Another House<\/h2>\n

The millionaire did not build his peculiar house in the heights due to a lack of space for his family. In fact, the Graves have constructed the house atop a more than 30-meter live oak tree in the garden of their enormous mansion, right next to a 465-square-meter guest house.<\/p>\n

As the businessman confessed in a recent interview<\/a> with Forbes<\/em>, he decided to build a house 20 meters high in 2015 after watching one of the television shows Treehouse Masters<\/em>. This show featured a team of professionals building tree houses. Nevertheless, Graves wasn’t interested in just any house\u2014he asked the team to construct a real house with three floors, a terrace, a dining room, a bedroom, and even a bathroom with running water.<\/p>\n

For anyone who doesn\u2019t have a checking account with millions of dollars, this sounds strange: why spend so much on something like this<\/strong> when everything can be on solid ground? Yet, for Graves, it\u2019s about disconnecting and having fun\u2014like returning to childhood as an adult. “It’s fun to have magical things,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n

A House to Move Into\u2026If You Can Afford It<\/h2>\n

The Graves\u2019 tree house has a spacious first level with a terrace of about 42 square meters to enjoy the outdoors, complete with a slide. There is an additional 37 square meters in a living room on the first floor, containing everything needed for comfort, including a bar counter and a bathroom with running water<\/strong> inside.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the construction utilized wood from an old sewing factory and stained glass salvaged after Hurricane Katrina, adding a special touch filled with history. The upper level invites relaxation and rest with views that begin to be unsuitable for those with a fear of heights. The crowning glory of the tree house is a viewpoint at the pinnacle of the construction, offering sweeping vistas of the landscape surrounding the mansion from a height of 25 meters. Additionally, there is a nearly 21-meter-long suspension bridge connecting to another viewpoint overlooking a nearby lake.<\/p>\n

This whimsical venture is truly spectacular, but it comes at a significant cost. Constructing this entire tree house cost $400,000 in 2015<\/strong>. While this may seem like a fortune to the average person, for Graves, it amounts to a mere 0.002% of his vast wealth, estimated at over $22 billion, according to Forbes<\/a>.<\/p>\n
