This participation allows China to influence Arctic policy discussions and initiatives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ue-c-article__paragraph\">The diminishing polar ice cap is accelerating ice melt, occurring at a staggering rate of 12% every decade. Climate experts now point to the Arctic as an emerging trade route, particularly the \u00a0Northwest Passage\u00a0, which remains primarily controlled by Russia.
