Two women were arrested in the streets of the colony Polanco<\/b> in the Mayor’s Office Miguel Hidalgo after physically and verbally assaulting a Traffic officer<\/b> who attempted to prevent them from violating traffic regulations in Mexico City.<\/p>\n

The incident unfolded when a policeman from the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control was conducting a routine check on Plato Street. He observed a truck driver manipulating a cell phone while driving<\/b>, a behavior deemed \u00a0high risk\u00a0 due to its potential to lead to \u00a0dangerous traffic accidents\u00a0. Consequently, the officer signaled the driver to inform them of the \u00a0infraction\u00a0 and to request the necessary documents for processing.<\/p>\n

In a surprising turn of events, the driver reacted aggressively, attempting to obstruct the officer from recording the vehicle’s registration details. She refused to cooperate<\/b>, failing to present the requested documentation, and escalated the verbal confrontation. Amidst this chaos, another woman appeared on a white motorcycle. Sensing the tension, she also displayed aggressive behavior, hurling insults at the officer. Ultimately, both women began physically assaulting<\/b> him.<\/p>\n

Despite the officer’s efforts to maintain calm and de-escalate the situation using verbal commands, the aggression persisted. When the motorcycle rider attempted to flee<\/b>, the police officer intervened, causing her motorcycle to topple to the ground. In the midst of this disturbance, the officer called for additional support via radio.<\/p>\n

Shortly thereafter, more personnel from the Ministry of Citizen Security (SSC<\/b>) arrived at the scene and successfully subdued the aggressors. The two women, aged 40 and 41, were subsequently arrested<\/b> and informed of their rights as per the legal protocol. They were then transferred along with the seized vehicles to the appropriate Public Ministry, where their legal situation will be reviewed and resolved.<\/p>\n

Incidents like these not only reflect a \u00a0disrespect for authority\u00a0 but also highlight the ongoing prevalence of risky driving behaviors such as using cell phones while behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

According to information from the Ministry of Mobility and the WHO<\/b>, the use of mobile devices while driving increases accident risk by a factor of four. This is due to the \u00a0drastic decrease in reaction time and environmental awareness\u00a0 when distracted. Even a momentary lapse in focus can lead to catastrophic outcomes, such as running a red light, colliding with another vehicle, or failing to notice pedestrians.<\/p>\n

The Traffic Regulations in Mexico City expressly forbid the use of cell phones while driving, except when utilizing hands-free devices<\/b>. Despite this, such rules are consistently flouted. Authorities are urging citizens to abide by traffic laws and to maintain a respectful attitude toward officers, whose responsibilities include \u00a0preventing accidents\u00a0 and safeguarding human life on the road.<\/p>\n
