Additionally, the car had registered legal restrictions and Marques had been driving with an expired license since 2013. According to reports from \u00a0The Washington Post\u00a0, Marques was unable to provide proof of the vehicle’s legality or to justify the accumulation of overdue payments.<\/p>\n

After the arrest, both Marques and his car were taken to police stations for processing. At the \u00a014th Police District\u00a0, Marques faced charges of \u00a0receiving stolen goods\u00a0 and \u00a0altering the identification mark of a motor vehicle\u00a0. Authorities noted that this incident fits into a broader trend of intensified scrutiny over high-end vehicles, particularly given suspicions around \u00a0tax evasion\u00a0, \u00a0concealment of assets\u00a0, or illegal importation.<\/p>\n

Brazilian regulations mandate strict adherence to \u00a0tax\u00a0 and \u00a0documentation\u00a0 requirements, which, according to the police, were not met in this instance.<\/p>\n

The \u00a0Military Police\u00a0 of S\u00e3o Paulo refrained from identifying Marques in their formal statement, only referring to him as someone “known for having participated in a television sketch.” Nevertheless, images circulated in the same statement depict a \u00a0Lamborghini\u00a0 matching the vehicle seen in a video posted by Marques nine weeks earlier.<\/p>\n

Tarso Marques is well-known among racing enthusiasts, especially since he participated in \u00a0South American Formula 3\u00a0 in 1993, the same year when a young driver named \u00a0Fernando Croceri\u00a0 took the championship at the \u00a0Buenos Aires Autodrome\u00a0. Marques continued his career racing in Europe and eventually entered \u00a0Formula 3000\u00a0 (now known as \u00a0Formula 2\u00a0). He made his \u00a0Formula 1 debut\u00a0 in 1996 with the \u00a0Minardi\u00a0 team, which he also raced for in 1997 and 2001, notably sharing the cockpit with a then 20-year-old \u00a0Fernando Alonso\u00a0. Marques achieved his best results in \u00a0Brazil\u00a0 and \u00a0Canada\u00a0, finishing ninth in both races\u2014an achievement for a team typically competing at the back of the grid.<\/p>\n
