The Deputy Secretary of \u00a0Institutional Regeneration\u00a0 of the PP, \u00a0Cuca Gamarra\u00a0, criticized the current Government led by \u00a0Pedro S\u00e1nchez\u00a0, asserting that it has effectively abandoned the National Civil Protection Prevention System for the past seven years. Gamarra emphasized that there has been a \u00a0significant reduction\u00a0 in aerial capabilities crucial for fire extinction, pointing to this inadequacy as a stark example of the government’s \u00a0absolute incompetence\u00a0. “They merely seek confrontation, polarization, and tension,” she stated in a recent press conference held in \u00a0Logro\u00f1o\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Government’s Inaction Amid Crisis<\/h2>\n

In light of the summer’s escalating \u00a0crisis and emergency\u00a0, Gamarra stated it is imperative to scrutinize what the \u00a0Spanish Government\u00a0 is doing and has done. This coincided with \u00a0Pedro S\u00e1nchez’s\u00a0 recent announcement regarding the formation of an interministerial commission designed to establish a \u00a0State Pact\u00a0 against climate emergency. Gamarra remarked that this initiative, already mentioned by S\u00e1nchez back in 2018, reflects a \u00a0lack of genuine action\u00a0. “This reveals not only the absence of effective governance but also a tendency to offer mere \u00a0smoke curtains\u00a0 to obscure their incompetence,” she added.<\/p>\n

Systematic Failures and Inadequate Resources<\/h2>\n

Gamarra outlined the dire consequences stemming from the government’s failure to bolster its emergency response. “Many of the situations currently unfolding stem from incompetence,” she asserted. With no national emergency response mechanism akin to those in other European countries, Spain remains ill-equipped to handle emergencies effectively. She noted, “We should have had a well-defined system years ago. This is a \u00a0responsibility with names and surnames\u2014specifically, the Government of Pedro S\u00e1nchez\u00a0.”<\/p>\n

The absence of an updated National Emergency Plan exacerbates these issues. According to Gamarra, the current plan is outdated and fails to adhere to \u00a02023 legislation\u00a0. “The responsibility for this \u00a0shortfall\u00a0 ultimately lies with the Government,” she implored.<\/p>\n

Aerial Resources: A Cause for Concern<\/h2>\n

Examining the government’s aerial capabilities, Gamarra criticized the \u00a0Court of Accounts’\u00a0 findings that revealed many aerial resources are \u00a0obsolete\u00a0. Out of 18 planes, 8 were deemed no longer fit for service, highlighting a significant failure on the government’s part. “These obsolete planes will not be replaced until 2030 or perhaps even 2031. This is not just incompetence; it’s negligence,” she stated.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Gamarra pointed out that since 2022, the \u00a0government’s contracting of aerial resources\u00a0 had further diminished their fire-extinguishing capabilities. “This resulted in a staggering 40% reduction in our air capacity,” she alleged, questioning the competence of a government that allows such deterioration.<\/p>\n

European Funds: Underutilized and Mismanaged<\/h2>\n

Turning to the \u00a0European funds\u00a0, Gamarra criticized the government for executing only \u00a020%\u00a0 of the allocated \u00a0401 million euros\u00a0. With \u00a0320 million euros\u00a0 remaining unutilized, she suggested that the absence of a competent government prioritizing \u00a0citizen protection\u00a0 lies at the heart of this failure.<\/p>\n

“These smoke curtains are not just a reflection of incompetence. They signify a government aimed more at \u00a0confrontation and tension\u00a0 than at any positive action,” Gamarra stated. She illustrated her point by citing instances where regional presidents requesting resources were merely dismissed, underscoring what she labeled as \u00a0bad faith\u00a0 on the government’s part.<\/p>\n

Spain Deserves Better<\/h2>\n

Concluding her remarks, Gamarra emphasized that \u00a0Spain deserves better\u00a0 than the current state of governance. She reiterated the citizens’ need for a government that prioritizes their safety and well-being\u2014one that acts diligently and responsibly in times of crisis. \u00a0Incompetence and negligence\u00a0 must not continue to define a government that should be dedicated to serving its people. The absence of a fulfilling and effective government structure has tangible consequences, particularly during these challenging times.
