However, \u00a0its international expansion\u00a0 is being seriously impeded by the tariffs imposed by the US and the European Union, among other regions with significant difficulties in competing with Chinese electric cars.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 1 --> <\/p>\n<p>The success of the country led by Xi Jinping in the electric vehicle industry has strengthened its leadership in the \u00a0production of lithium batteries\u00a0. According to reports, \u00a057%\u00a0 of the batteries used in Chinese electric vehicles come from China. Catl and Byd are the largest lithium battery manufacturers in the world, boasting <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2024\/01\/19\/top-10-battery-producers-in-the-world-2023-provisional-data\/\" data-id=\"noopener, noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">market shares of 34% and 16% respectively in 2023<\/a>. This Asian country has achieved its dominance due to several critical factors.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 2 --><\/p>\n<p>First and foremost, it is the <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eleconomista.es\/economia\/noticias\/12007794\/10\/22\/El-plan-de-China-para-dominar-el-Litio-Xi-compra-Zimbabue-y-redobla-su-ofensiva-por-Africa.html\" data-id=\"noopener, noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">largest producer in the world<\/a> of lithium and rare earths, essential raw materials in battery manufacturing. Additionally, it controls the processing of these materials and is capable of producing large-scale batteries at very competitive prices. Currently, there are no indicators suggesting that its dominance in the lithium battery market will be threatened in the medium term. Nevertheless, the US government is actively working to configure conditions that could potentially end China&#8217;s supremacy in the battery sector.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 3 -->  <\/p>\n<h2>South Korea: The Strongest Alternative to China in Battery Production<\/h2>\n<p>At the end of July, LG Energy Solution, the LG subsidiary specializing in lithium battery design and manufacturing, <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/voltrush.substack.com\/p\/trump-is-creating-a-guaranteed-market\" target=\"_blank\">signed an agreement<\/a> worth \u00a0$4.3 billion\u00a0 to supply lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP) to Tesla over the next three years. Although it is a South Korean company, it represents the best asset for the US to curb Chinese dominance. Catl and Byd enjoy advantages such as high-performance batteries at very competitive prices, prompting \u00a0LG Energy Solution\u00a0, Sk On, and Samsung SDI\u2014South Korea&#8217;s main battery manufacturers\u2014to \u00a0consistently lose market share\u00a0. According to <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/voltrush.substack.com\/p\/trump-is-creating-a-guaranteed-market\" target=\"_blank\">SNE Research<\/a>, their combined market share has dropped by \u00a05.4%\u00a0 between January and June 2025.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 5 --><\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration is committed to reversing this trend, aiming to create conditions in the United States that support South Korean battery manufacturers while penalizing Chinese producers. To achieve this, it has included <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/voltrush.substack.com\/p\/trump-is-creating-a-guaranteed-market\" target=\"_blank\">Chinese battery manufacturers<\/a> such as Catl, Byd, Envision Energy, Eve Energy, Gotion, and Hithium in a list of prohibited foreign entities.
