The Municipal Administration of \u00a0Tunja\u00a0 has made a heartfelt invitation to residents, encouraging them to raise the \u00a0flag\u00a0 of the city outside their homes, shops, and institutions. This meaningful gesture aims to foster \u00a0local identity\u00a0 and entice community participation in the \u00a0celebrations\u00a0 marking the \u00a0486th anniversary\u00a0 of Tunja’s foundation in \u00a0Boyac\u00e1\u00a0.<\/p>\n

This call is especially directed at the \u00a0educational community\u00a0, public servants, and all residents, who are encouraged to participate in scheduled festivities across \u00a0August 6, 7, and 8\u00a0.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Tunja announced through \u00a0Decree No. 0305\u00a0, dated \u00a0July 15, 2025\u00a0, that there will be no workday on \u00a0August 8\u00a0 for public servants or classes in official schools. This decree complements the previously established \u00a0Civic Day\u00a0 on \u00a0August 6\u00a0, which commemorates the anniversary of the city\u2019s founding. Additionally, \u00a0August 7\u00a0 marks the national observance of the \u00a0Battle of Boyac\u00e1\u00a0, recognized as a public holiday throughout the country according to \u00a0Law 51 of 1983\u00a0.<\/p>\n

During these three celebratory days, the majority of government units will remain closed, bringing a halt to official duties and schooling. However, the \u00a0Administration\u00a0 has allowed the \u00a0Citizen Attention Unit\u00a0 to offer face-to-face services on \u00a0August 8\u00a0 from \u00a07:00 am to 3:00 pm\u00a0. Additionally, the \u00a05th Police Inspection\u00a0 and the \u00a05th Family Police Station\u00a0, situated in \u00a0Los Muiscas neighborhood\u00a0, will be operational to address community needs.<\/p>\n

To ensure ongoing essential services, the decree specifies that the workday suspension will not affect agencies responsible for public security, health, and transit<\/b>, among others that require continuity or compliance with legal deadlines. Each agency must designate a minimum number of staff to handle emergencies and priority matters.<\/p>\n

Only two years later, on \u00a0March 29, 1541\u00a0, Emperor \u00a0Carlos V\u00a0 granted it city status through a \u00a0Royal Decree\u00a0, solidifying its prominence within the viceroyalty. Later, on \u00a0December 1, 1564\u00a0, King \u00a0Felipe II\u00a0 dubbed it ‘Very Noble and Very Loyal’, showcasing its significance within the colonial framework.<\/p>\n

The city’s connection with independence is marked by \u00a0Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar’s\u00a0 arrival on \u00a0November 22, 1814\u00a0.
