According to the <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a13ba438-3b43-46dd-b332-4b81b3644da0\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Times<\/a>, some White House advisors are pressing the government to maintain their blockade on China.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 2 --><\/p>\n<h2>NVIDIA Needs TSMC to Manufacture 300,000 H20 Chips for China<\/h2>\n<p>Donald Trump wants to meet &#8220;face to face&#8221; with \u00a0Xi Jinping\u00a0 before the end of this year, again according to information from the <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a13ba438-3b43-46dd-b332-4b81b3644da0\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Times<\/a>. The intention of the US president is to smoothen relations with his Chinese counterpart to promote negotiations in commercial matters that both countries have maintained for several months. The primary focus is the chip for \u00a0artificial intelligence (AI)\u00a0, the H20. Despite its limitations, sales in China grew by \u00a050% quarter to quarter\u00a0 since it reached this market in mid-2024. Everything changed for NVIDIA in mid-April when the \u00a0US Department of Commerce\u00a0 imposed new export restrictions on the H20 GPU, effectively halting its sales to Chinese clients.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 5 --><\/p>\n<p>The news caused NVIDIA\u2019s stock to plummet by \u00a06%\u00a0, as it could no longer meet the commitments tied to the H20 GPU. Among the Chinese customers who had acquired large quantities of this GPU, expecting to continue their purchases, were \u00a0Tencent\u00a0, \u00a0Alibaba\u00a0, and \u00a0Bytedance\u00a0. Ultimately, NVIDIA managed to persuade the \u00a0Department of Commerce\u00a0 to review its regulations and again allow the sale of the H20 GPU in China.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 6 --> <\/p>\n<p>Ironically, this change has created a dilemma for NVIDIA. The reception of the H20 GPU in China has been so positive that this American company now finds itself \u00a0out of stock\u00a0. According to <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/nvidia-orders-300000-h20-chips-tsmc-due-robust-china-demand-sources-say-2025-07-29\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, NVIDIA has commissioned \u00a0TSMC\u00a0 to manufacture an astounding \u00a0300,000 units\u00a0 of this chip to meet current demand from China\u2014a \u00a0blessed problem\u00a0. However, the company&#8217;s engineers have also been diligently working on a new GPU featuring state-of-the-art \u00a0Blackwell Microarchitecture\u00a0, intended to take the place of the H20 chip in China.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 7 --><\/p>\n<p>In fact, TSMC is presumed to have begun production of the upcoming B30 GPU in June. Early reports indicate that this AI-focused chip will be less capable than the H20 GPU, as one would expect, and its price is projected to range between \u00a0$6,500 and $8,000\u00a0. Although this may seem steep for domestic users, it is comparatively moderate in the realm of professional AI GPUs.
