The same that identifies the plaque with Spain.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 1 --> <\/p>\n<p><strong>A lyric<\/strong>. And what lyric is it? The E. of &#8220;Spain&#8221;, &#8220;State&#8221;, and &#8220;confrontation&#8221;, to give only some examples. At least for those who consider that this letter in their enrollment is an act of submission to the Spanish State, and therefore, is a cause for political confrontation.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 2 --><\/p>\n<p>That letter that some Catalan independence supporters disappear from their tuition to replace it with the CAT letters, next to a <em>SENYERA<\/em>, as a political claim or small subversive act before what they consider the submission of Spain in the region.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 3 -->  <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<div class=\"desvio-container\">\n<div class=\"desvio\">\n<div class=\"desvio-figure js-desvio-figure\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>It is not new<\/strong>. <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.elconfidencial.com\/espana\/cataluna\/2025-07-17\/vuelve-cataluna-campana-intentar-tapar-e-matriculas_4171264\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Confidential<\/em><\/a> collects the return of this way of acting by some Catalan independence supporters. But this act of protest is not much less new. <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/motor.elpais.com\/actualidad\/cambio-matricula-se-puede-modificar\/\" target=\"_blank\">At the end of 2024<\/a>, a Catalan was fined for this reason when considering the Mossos d&#8217;Esquadra that he had manipulated the registration, which is considered a serious infraction that entails a sanction of 200 euros.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 4 --><\/p>\n<p>But these attempts to replace the license plates have persued since then. However, it has been in the last two or three years that the most noise has been generated.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 5 --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Galician case<\/strong>. The phenomenon took special relevance in the last three years. <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LinusPuchal\/status\/1859537928206082109?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1859537928206082109%7Ctwgr%5Ed8a863e1e05930b00830a52add5b561720163965%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmotor.elpais.com%2Factualidad%2Ftapa-la-e-de-la-matricula-con-una-pegatina-que-pone-cat-y-el-resultado-es-una-multa-de-cientos-de-euros%2F\">In 2024, a driver complained<\/a> on social networks about receiving the aforementioned fine. In the replies, many argued that carrying the CAT on the registration was not illegal.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 6 --> <\/p>\n<p>The origin must be found in Galicia. There, Bieito Lobeira, Secretary of Organization of the Galician Independence Party BNG, was fined for covering the E of Spain with a GZ in reference to &#8220;Galiza&#8221;. After various appeals, <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nosdiario.gal\/articulo\/social\/matricula-gz-multa-interior\/20220727095446148641.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lobeira won the case<\/a> because it was pointed out that the small modification did not prevent the correct reading of the registration.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 7 --><\/p>\n<p>To this argument, those who act in this way attach themselves, such as <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/davidalcoia\/status\/1742282529950847110?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1742282529950847110%7Ctwgr%5Ef5f5e21d6a4db48f6ab211637200333be5d679a7%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vilaweb.cat%2Fnoticies%2Fmultat-adhesiu-cat-matricula%2F\">David Mi\u00f1ana (ANC leader)<\/a> or <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.totbarcelona.cat\/es\/sociedad\/multan-al-escritor-jordi-cabre-por-llevar-el-distintivo-cat-en-la-matricula-588270\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jordi Cabr\u00e9 (writer)<\/a>. The matter is slippery because Article 49.4 of the General Vehicle Regulations specifies:<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 8 --><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It is prohibited that the registration plates be placed, registered or painted with ornaments, signs or other characters other than those indicated in Annex XVIII, including advertising inside them (&#8230;) It is prohibited that unauthorized complementary plates be affixed to the anterior and posterior parts of the vehicles.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, in the Traffic Law, where the serious sanctions (200 euros) are reflected, it is specified that the following compliance is sanctioned:<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 9 --><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Failure to comply with the obligation of any driver to verify that vehicle registration plates do not present obstacles that prevent or hinder their reading and identification.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lobeira won his case because the judge understood that the GZ letters did not hinder the reading and identification of the registration.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 10 --> <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<div class=\"desvio-container\">\n<div class=\"desvio\">\n<div class=\"desvio-figure js-desvio-figure\">\n     <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The license plates of cars in Spain are forever. The newspaper <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/es.ara.cat\/politica\/moncloa\/multa-acaba-25-anos-pagando-llevar-cat-matricula_1_5245664.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Ara<\/em><\/a> points out that this fight for the letters of the registration has been ongoing for a quarter of a century. In 2000, the Spanish registration plates changed. They adapted to the obligation to carry the letter E and the flag of the European Union for the identification of vehicles outside their country of origin.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 11 --><\/p>\n<p>However, the government of Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Aznar also eliminated the references to regions.
